ok...I hear all the time about how late silkies lay. So I am not really getting my hopes up...but I am wondering...do they ever go broody a long time before they lay?? I have two Araucanas that are about 8 months old and I have given up on them laying before spring. I figured that my five that hatched 08/29 (various breeds) wouldn't lay before spring either. All of my girls were in the run this afternoon except one silkie. I found her by herself in a nesting box. I picked her up to see if she looked ok...she looked fine to me....just clucked at me a bit. I put her back in the box. I am just curious. Did she just want some me time? Did she have a fight with her bff? Is she sick? Or could she be broody before she ever laid an egg????

If it was as simple as finding a Dominant White Silkie there should be much more paints.
You have to know Co-Dominance not excist in color-genes.
The Black Silkie have the Dominant Black color-gene , the Dominant White Silkie have the Dominant White color-gene.
Which one shall express when you cross these both ? The Dominant white color-gene shall express !
The paint Silkies that have these black spots are not yet completely genetically explained .
An option is that the gene mottled is involved !!
