Silkie thread!

I was researching silkie genetics and was wondering if anyone know what you get if you mix a splash with a grey?

peepblessed Thank you for your compliment ! I visited your site. The pictures of the farm are SHOW QUALITY. Very beautiful place you have there. Looks like paradise. And your birds are fantastic. I may need to visit to see them in person. Good luck on your hatch ! May I ask who you ordered them? Will they be traveling some distance ?

Thank you, flower! My father did our landscaping here and he is quite an artist. These are the eggs I purchased. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...ed-silkie-eggs-shipping-included-in-price-bin She has awesome silkies. I ended up getting a dozen eggs and four are paint. I'm soooo excited! It would be fun to have a visitor this spring.

You know the problem with Silkies? The more time you spend with them, the more you like them.

My little guy is such an endearing creature. Is it normal for them to struggle with hand-fed treats? I assume it's because he can't see them properly? I'm curious to get him outside (supervised, of course) to see how he does foraging. (It won't be anytime soon in this climate, however.) He tips his head every this way and that, trying to investigate things. That top-knot and beard, although cute as could be really aren't functional!

I keep cheek feathers trimmed. It improves vision greatly and doesn't really show. I just trimmed this blue girl yesterday.

agreed if they are pets or breeders and not to be shown - trim the beard, and trim or pluck around the eyes. OR just shape that front of the crest a bit if it dips severely in front of the face.

A chicken that has 'ticks' or flips the head alot probably has fluff that is getting in their eyes and irritating them.

Hello all,
We are looking for SQ chicks, Does anyone offer chicks for sale? message me with colors, prices, location, etc. It is too cold now to ship but we would like to get a list together and be ready when the time comes.
My daughter showed the, in 4H for 5 years and they now have succumbed to old age, she only had 2 left. Now she is a freshman in college and looking for some to start her a new small flock. This will be her last year in 4H and then she can do open shows with her school schedule.
She won Premier Poultry Exhibitor last year, we were so proud of her!
Any suggestions are appreciated,
Angela

No such thing as a SQ chick, you can get chicks with no disqualifying features but if they are young there are no guarantees on how they will fill out and develop over time. You (or your daughter) should become members of the ASBC American Silkie Bantams Club, there is a full roster of members and what colors they have and if they sell eggs, chicks, started, adults, etc along with contact info.

This is clearly what is going on with Elliot but I'm thinking I might like to show him ....

When I'm looking for eggs I always say I'm looking for eggs from SQ stock which, I hope, makes it clear, I understand that there are no guarantees - but I ask for pictures of the parents or, even better, a meet and greet so I can see for myself. If they really are show birds, they should be able to provide me with results as well.

As in all things - buyer beware. Do your homework.

(And I'm a Canadian member of the ASBC
