Silkie thread!

When I bought this guy at 7 months (he was just recovering from molt) he carried his wings like this.

About a month later I put him in with my pullets and though they were very nice to him he dropped his wings down
and it's been two months and they are still down. Anyone experience that?

Thanks for everyone who had imput on this! I really appreciate your comments.

Am I going to have problems when I put my silkies in with my orpingtons? I do have an orp rooster (randy too) - right now my chicks look at them through the fence like they are Godzilla chickens! How do I introduce to the original flock? ....and when?

are they full sized orpingtons or bantams?
If they are standard large orpingtons I would suggest you keep your Orps and silkies seperated. Free ranging them together is fine, BUT housing them in the same coop and pen can be a problem.

True--your silkies are likely to beat up the orps. At least that is what would happen in my coops if they did not get along

I have largefowl exhibition barred rocks. This means they are huge. Both in coops and ranging the silkies rule, and occasionally a barred rock gets bullied by a silkie.

When my silkies are there first adding large fowl is never a problem and the silkies all boss them. but when I add younger silkies the bigger large fowl pick on them. If the silkies are adults though, true it doesn't happen, but the teenage silkies can get picked on.

My orps are big and my silkies are juveniles. I'm thinking a second coop and pen will be in order. Tater (my roo) doesn't take kindly to anyone except my lab - they're best friends! He hates my other dog and kids and will attack. Don't think my sweet little silkies would bode well :(

I think that's wise. Our silkies do okay free-ranging with standard-size hens, but even there the milder tempered pullets can get picked on. However, our dominant guinea has decided he doesn't care for the silkies and barely tolerates them on the property. He's happy to pluck any silkie--even the roos--if we let him close. It's my experience that silkies only work well with other mild-mannered birds.
