Here are my silkies babies that hatched December 14th!! They are such goofs. The pictures were taken during playtime out in the sun. One of them just recently started crowing.

Let me know what you guys think of the quality. They still have bit of pin feathers in their fluff on the head so I think they will be more fluffy on their heads. It was hot so thats why they have their wings out like that, they normally keep them held tighter.






THIS is your crower I bet, definitely a boy the shape of the crest and I see pin feathers as well as obvious streamers on this one's head, as well as a protruding comb that has a pink tint to it...with the pinking his skin ton is lighter than you'd want... - also critique wise he has very poor type, long back, no real cushion and too many hard feathers in the tail. The shape of the tail (not right for a silkie BTW) but in silkies when they have tails like that, they are more often seen that shape in PQ males. He is definitely a PQ bird, but adorable all the same. He definitely looks to have a personality to him in the photos!




This chick I don't know what color you'd call it, but looks like a buff X partridge OR possibly from someone's porcelain project? I really like this little one though! Definitely keep us updated on the coloring! I love oddballs and have had a chick similar in color to this one turn out to be a absolutely drop dead gorgeous bird color wise

Sonoran, or Beth-- who ever is here and shows- Our show is this Saturday. So I helped my son wash our cockerel first. He's a Splash. We got him pretty clean-- EXCEPT right around his beak on his beard and right on his crest above the comb. I got the crest pretty clean except for the spot it meets the comb. And the spot where it meets the underside of his beak. They still are off colored and dingy looking. He is looking really great except for those areas. What can I do to brighten those or get them whiter/cleaner or whatever. I was tempted to dab at it with vinegar. I hate to do another whole body wash just for those two areas. Any tips to get them to look grey and less dingy? Help! He's hanging out in my kitchen right now. I'd like to do it NOW while he's still in here and drying to cut down on the stress. Lay it on me!!


ETA: OH and I knew the underside beard was dingy, so I used Dawn on him there and really scrubbed/bubbled it up thinking that would help. I didn't realize the little dirt pocket right between his crest and comb was there until we were blowing him out and I spotted it then. I brushed him out lightly and none of it comes out.

Thanks for the help!! I sorta was starting to think the same thing. I have those type of tails. UGH! The guy I got the eggs from has good quality or at least thats what he told me... I did his roo and from I can tell he looks like his daddy. Oh well. He will make a good pet, oh you are SO right about the personality. I would keep him just for the personality but I would rather not breed him.

The one said was Buff X partridge is my favorite! I am really holding out high hopes for her! Ill definetely keep you updated. She is very small and petite.

BTW I have 4 whites 2 black 1 buff and 1 partridge.

I too like the buffy one the best. I think some better photos of your other cuties might help for an evaluation but really they are too young for a really good evaluation.

I think it was the flash..her beak is not nearly so light in person. And YAY! I can only hope she'll end up as pretty as your pullet!
I got lucky with the four Silkies I bought from the local breeder. Got a black (I think she looks very girly), a blue which I am suspecting MIGHT be a cockerel, a splash and the partridge. If only one of them ends up being a boy, I'll be thrilled, and if it is the blue, I won't be heartbroken.

I just got some silkies on Sunday and the end of the second day they finally went out in the yard but when it started getting dark out they just stared piling up in the yard instead of going in the coop? It is cold and rainy here I'm sure they would lay out there and die. It's been three nights and I still have to go put them in at night. I saw them go in and out a bit yesterday so I hoped they would go in but at night time they started piling out side again
I have ever seen chickens do this I am worried what will happen if I can't be here to put them to bed. Anybody else have this trouble? I just love them they are so cute.

My experience has been that because silkies don't see as well as other chickens (Their crests block vision) they don't like to go into a dark coop. If you have a solar yard light that you can stick in the coop at night and take out during the day to recharge they will likely go in and in a few days you can stop with the light. They usually prefer to sleep in a pile but some silkies will roost.

You're welcome! Let me know if it works! I forgot to mention that silkie feathers don't shed water like other chickens but the silkies don't know it.
