My little silkie chick passed on day

. Yesterday a mean ol' Barred Rock chick grabbed him by the neck and hurt him. R.I.P. Blondie. I love you.

Barring and cuckoo are the same B (barring) gene. Some breeds have the barring a little "tighter", neater, more uniform. Then it is called barring. When it's a little more wild, almost like mottled or spots, it's called cuckoo. The difference has to do with the amount of pigment (black) deposited on the feather and the speed at which the pigment is deposited on the feather. (Silkies, I believe, are "cuckoo".)

Ah! Thank you, BarnGoddess! So I can continue to call mine the Cuckoo Twins till I figure out their gender...I'll have to post pix...

Thought I'd share some pictures from today
