Silkie thread!

Just had the Silkie babies out for photos. Not happy having their pictures taken. They would much prefer to be cuddled. But these photos are a little better than the ones I posted the other day.
I am confused about their colors. Two eggs were marked "PA" which I thought Karen had told me was paint. I know paint does not breed true, so I have no idea how these will turn out! Pretty sure they won't look paint though. So one of the paints looks black and I may even have the black and paint confused. I was trying hard to keep them all straight as they hatched, making notes, but when they dried they looked different! The egg marked blue/splash I'm sure who hatched out of there, but this baby looks a lot bluer than splash. So may turn out blue, maybe splash on a blue background? Who knows? I guess the fun will be the journey of discovery. I love them all.

I did email Karen from Catdance to see if she had a moment to respond to a couple of my questions about color. I'm sure she's busy, but we'll see.

So here they are! I believe this is one from a mystery "PA" egg. Love the attitude!

Here's my blue splash baby (maybe vaulted skull) - who had to work VERY hard to get out of her shell. She's valiant! (and she had just stepped in poo - sorry!)

My Catdance eggs are going into lockdown tomorrow. I still have 17 of 24 that look good!

I use a store brand lavender scented baby shampoo. NO idea if this is what the "pros" would use to make a bird show ready but it made sense to me and it seems to work ....

Sadie, are your chicks from catdance?  I just ordered some of her eggs, and got a couple with the PA on them, and one I think..had POA...say what?    If these are the chicks, they look very nice!  Can't wait, just them today though.  So wait I will. 

Yes they were from Catdance eggs. I just heard from her in response to my email . The PA is indeed paint and I'm guessing your POA is actually POR. That's how my little porcelain baby was marked and I think she's beautiful.

Karen said it appeared that my PA, paint chicks, will be blue and partridge and that my little blue splash baby is a blue out of her blue/splash pen.

I does seem like an interminably long wait but oh what little treasures we get as a reward!
Good luck with your hatch - can't wait to see what pops out!

On the BBS birds, white, and paint, I use Clairol Shimmer Lights.
It's for old ladies, and has a very faint blue tint to it.
Yes, I'm an old lady, with grey hair

My mom suggested this also because all my silkies are white. She said they would be sooo white they'd glow in the dark.

Ok.... I had promised/said last week that I would try and get a picture of my other silkie/faverolle mix, because he is one funky looking bird... its the full brother to Belle Mai, the girl in my avatar...




I took these pictures last night. Finally caught his butt. He fine once you catch him, but he will lead you on a merry chase. He has both black and white skin.. And the cream in his head and chest cover his WHOLE body like that. He is very fluffy, super silky. When he crows, it comes out as a hooo-da-looo. I named him U.B. Ugly Boy. He aint ugly, but he sure is funky.
