Okay--- here is my lame humor in play.... I keep humming that Sesame Street song "one of these things is not like the other, one of these things doesn't belong!" Right there in the middle-- my surprise Partridge. I was dreaming up all kinds of reasons why it might have hatched from my BBS eggs..

Aww, so cute!

Looks like your roosts are low and it's a ladder so they can get up there easily. I just heard if the roost was too high for them then they won't, and some just choose not too. Preferring to sleep in a pile on the floor.
I am providing a low roost and going to see what they do.

Yes, our roosts are low enough so that the silkies can just hop up each step to get to the top. They don't all like to get up there, but some of them do. I think it's a great idea to at least give them the option and let the chickens decide what they want to do. lol

For those of you who were trying to help me figure out if my unusually colored chick was male or female a few months. He turned out to be very male! His name is Lancelot.
Isn't he a looker?! Very handsome.

Because you have the three colors in one pen, you don't always know what color a baby is when it hatches. It may be light blue or splash or dark blue or black. It's unusual for it to be some other color like partridge.
I think I get this BBS term now. lol
So basically a BBS egg/chick could be any of the three colors; black, blue or splash, right?
