Silkie thread!

SadieSue I agree 100%!!! Everyone has been so nice to answer my questions. I know nothing about chickens but I have them, LOL It just seemed like the thing to do. I really love my chickens and look forward to many years of loving them.

Hawkeye ~ The photo was upright when it was loaded into the forum but when loading finished it was sideways. The lady I purchased her from had tons of different kind of birds so it's possible she is a mix with any number of birds x Silkie. I just thought she was beautiful. Her coloring amazes me. I could look at her all day. Thank you for your input. I'm going to go look up Houdans now :)
I have Polish, and Houdans are a "cousin" of them-- they have a similar look, but their crests are different, and of course, Polish don't have 5 toes. Even if she's not a Houdan cross, she is likely mixed with something that had a crest. I agree, her coloring is really pretty. :)

You know, I just have to say I think Silkie people are just about the nicest people in some of the forums. You are all so helpful and complimentary towards newbies and some not so new. I really appreciate that you take the time to respond to folks inquiries. I think it may have something to do with the breed we're drawn to - you know - sweet, gentle birds that just today I was thinking are like the lapdogs of the chicken world. I think Silkies attract sweet, gentle people. I could be wrong. Maybe I'm just overly optimistic because the sun is shining right now in the Northwest...

And you're right, I've met some of the nicest people, on and off-line, through my Silkies!

Eeek!! so today i candled my showgirl/silkie girls... Was gonna wait til day 10 but power went out cause it got super hot today.... And i was sure how long it went out... Any ways 13out 14 eggs show developement! The 14th egg not real sure but keeping it a little longer just incase got to see the peanuts (chicks) move too! Its soo crazy amazing my eldest is super excited... Crossing fingers that all make it .... 15 days to go!(feels like forevers)

I didn't include photos earlier because she is kind of skittish and I couldn't get her to stop running. Today I put
her up in the nesting boxes and I was able to snap these shots.

I
I THINK SHE'S BEAUTIFUL. THE COLORS IN HER FEATHERS LOOK LIKE A LIGHT GRAY TO A BLUISH/GREEN ON THE TIPS OF THE FEATHERS ON HER NECK.

A sizzle is a silkie X cochin (usually) Most people seem to want to go for the frizzled feathers, but I actually prefer the smooth like this. Here is a picture of my splash sizzle girl:

LOL...I literally just messaged my friend and said that the silkie thread is full of nice people and no one is snippy and has the "I'm better than you" kind of attitude. Thanks Silkie group for being awesome!

I am interested in becoming NPIP Certified. I went to NY's website and read a little, but I wanted to know from someone who is certified, what happens? Is there an inspector that comes out? What are they looking for? Are they going to test my birds?

Any info, suggestions, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Your Splash is so pretty. I can see where this could be addictive. Help! I'm going to need a 12 step program, haha

I know I keep collecting them like Pokemon cards. I want a blue laced next :D I'd like to breed both my girls so I am waiting right now. I have currently a blue silkie pullet, a smooth splash sizzle pullet, a sebright roo (who is going to his new home tomorrow), a buff orpington pullet, a buff plymouth rock pullet, a unknown color cochin chick, and a buff polish chick. Must. Slow. Down. And. Stop. Bringing. More. Home. lol

And thank you! I love her too. Shes my daughter's bird, but I love her to death!.
