Silkie thread!

No. It's more of a buff color. I think it just looks that way cause it's on the red board.
Little chicky would be mighty pretty if that was the real color.

Keep searching the sale section of BYC. You can find birds and eggs pretty much all the time. EXCEPT that if anyone is worth their salt, right now, they won't be shipping birds in this heat. We were 105 yesterday which was lower than the heat we have been having. We've been up past 110 already this summer. I know where I'm at people are losing birds to the heat left and right and that is with shade and misters. It's just too darned hot. Also, most breeders will be selling off birds in the Fall when their babies have grown out and they can see what they have. That is what I'm doing. I've had people contact me about my birds, and I have plenty, but I'm not selling until I can see their type and what kind of quality. Then I'll sell them based on that. I'm sure you'll find decent roos that are better type/quality than hens since there will be more to go around. I'm only wanting to keep 2 new roosters and the rest will go. So the best time to look would be this Fall and you will find a much larger selection to choose from!

Your so right about that, Ive been trying to search local due to the heat heat here. I was thinking eggs but that kinda goes hand in hand I guess. My hens have slowed laying due to the heat too. Im in no hurry really just keeping my eyes peeled. Id like to get my color pens finished someday .Right now ive got them separated in make shift pens but they work for now in my petting zoo pen and Id like to free it up again. Ive got dozen eggs in lockdown today bbs so we will see what happens.

You're correct, it does. For best results, you really don't want to be shipping eggs right now, either. I get the bulk of my hatching done early Spring. Even a bit into late winter. By the time late Spring and summer here, I'm done and I'm already growing out. I don't want to deal with little chicks in this heat.

Sounds like you have a plan for separating your colors, and that is wonderful! You'll get much better birds and results with clean colors and no mixing. I'm sure you'll find some wonderful birds this Fall! Just keep an eye out and don't be afraid to ship. I've had birds shipped in October and November, and that really is the best time to do it. Good luck on your eggs in lockdown! I hope you have a great hatch!

Finishing up my Silkie Coop this weekend. My babies will be 8 weeks old this Sunday and I guess it's time to move them outside. I'm going to miss them! It's been so much fun to grab them out of the brooder in the house and snuggle with them. I love the way they settle in and sing and coo while we hold them. I hope they'll still be as friendly after I move them into their new digs.
It's tempting to keep them in the house with me but I suppose that would be wrong. They truly are chickens and not beanie babies after all...

Oh... but then they'll get bigger and one day will be broody and I can order more Silkie eggs for them to hatch and then I'll have a whole new bumper crop of babies to play with...

I do love my layer flock, but who thought I'd ever be this crazy about a bunch of soft, sweet, fuzzy little chickens? Thank goodness for this thread. I know I'm not the only one off my rocker!

I feel the same....I am trying to find out how I can keep 4 colors outside without my neighbors or the city giving me grief. It's so tempting to try and keep them in the basement. I love chicks, too, and miss my little mutts, but I have lot's of Silkie eggs that will hopefully be hatching in 3 weeks. Oh, how will I ever keep the roosters quiet???

I have one banty rooster who is semi loud, but no one has complained, thank the Lord....I am planning on selling that pair when the Silkies are old enough to crow....What to do, what to do? Anyone have a way to buffer the noise?
