Silkie thread!

Quote: The concern is having isabel (lavender diluted buff) display as leakage in lavender offspring. Not all that different than breeding a blue to a buff. Some of the offspring would not show the buff, and others would. If the lavender is E/E and the porcelain is not, then chances are better that you will get some solid coloured lavenders. Have I done it? Yes, but I have also had leakage that I would prefer to not have.

Thanks! I did find it! I never realize "Home" was a different page that the one that opens when you go to the website.

Okay this is the one I am worried about the split wing on.

Full Body right side

And the "bad" wing spread out:

"Good" side spread out:

Now as I spread her wings out, I noticed what looks like new feathers growing in on that side...good sign I'm hoping:

Also, looking at some pics I found, it looks like "normal" split wing occurs closer to the wing tip. So I think I am just being paranoid. I'm still learning more about it all. I know nothing of the condition before reading about it here. Peepblessed....I couldn't find the info either on the site. Thought I was doing something wrong. It gives me some comfort to know that I wasn't alone! lol
I posted links to the album and thread; the wings thread was buried in a general care and nutrition section; I moved it to the genetics and breeding section, so it should be easier to find.

Looking at the above photos, I think the "split" is because the axial feather is still growing in. I had a bird at a show once and the judge pointed it out that the axial was still growing in; you could see other feathers still growing in on other parts of its body, too. It is relatively easy when spreading the wing to pull far enough that they appear to split, but they do not.

I see. And of course the leakage doesn't show up until they are pretty mature so you don't know as babies, right? One of my lavender chicks that I hatched from shipped eggs had faint chip monk markings. Do you think that is an indication of something that will show up later?

We had this dicussion a while back. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread/17700 Hawkeye has a great photo of an immature wing. Maybe she will repost it for you. This is such a critical subject. I'm hoping we will get some feedback from Sonoran or anyone else who has extensive knowledge on the subject. We always see photos of very obvious split wing but what about the ones that are not so obvious?
pictures of a 3.5 month old bird (at the time of pictures). She is not fully developed, but I am obsessing over wings because I don't want to breed anything that has a split. I know it's on the early side... but this bird looks like it could have a potential problem.

ETA--- this picture above-- I pulled the wing out less than the picture above it on the SAME side-- there is a difference in the way they look just in how much you pull the wing out. But still.... doesn't look wonderful.
