Silkie thread!

Well I went ahead and washed my 3 girls that i am taking to the show next Saturday...I was so nervous about doing it but they were fine and seemed to enjoy it after a while...

washing them I realized how dirty and broken their feet feathers are...oh well...first time showing so you can't expect miracles I guess. Next i am going to try and trim their beaks just a little to round them off.

anyone with experience...do i wash them again in a couple of days? or leave them now to get their natural oils back?

They are in the basement in cages with deep shavings with a lamp on them drying...is there anything else that I should be doing to get ready for Saturday? any advice is welcome...thanks

this is what I used to wash them in....

here they are being washed...

and here they are in the basement fluffing up...sorry for the crappy phone pics...

sorry for all the frantic posting and pictures but I am REALLY nervous about going to my first show and showing my chickens...I am going by myself and I know nothing about anything and know noone...lol!!!

If anyone is going to the Calhoun show in GA...come and say hi...please!

Just got a rooster home with few young hens was told they weren't ready to bread but saw him mate a hen. Does this mean he is ready to fertilize eggs? And does it mean my hen is ready to lay?

With my silkies I have seen that the boys are ready to mate before the girls are ready to lay. The boys will start practising their skills way too early for my liking. I always pull them out until the girls are 6 mths old (laying or not) then I allow the boys to be with the ladies. I just don't think the girls are ready and able to handle a roo even a young roo at that age...

Silkies can take a long time to be ready to lay...some at 6 mths and some at 12 mths...just depends...

Lol, I thought the longer feathers that protrude out of the crest were streamers my mistake, I guess I was unclear when I asked the question a while back and for some reason I thought you said your parti was a roo anyways she is way too good looking to be a hen!!!

Yes, they do come out of the crest but only at the back. :) Maybe I missed the photo you were talking about. That could easily happen. This thread moves so fast. :D

I want her to look perfect and I just bought this new shampoo to try, isle of dogs keratin volumizing shampoo. I'm going to try it tonight and see how she looks.

Peepblessed, This is the one that came out of the lavender egg. It seems that from all the eggs that I got only 2 b/s (came out to be both splashes) and a Porcelain (which I will have to sale it has all its 10 toes but 4 in one side and 6 in the other :/ ) came out to be what the egg said. And here are the rest :) Also she said her blacks weren't laying so I didn't get any black eggs. BUT I think I have a black one :) The one in front to the left. Ill take better pictures tomorrow.

I am going to say that you have a couple of little paints there...they look like they have some spots and if they have an orange ting to them then yes...they will hopefully look like mine...the are both from paint breeding pens...not a lot of spots like my other paints but they do have them... am excited for you...I bet they are!

Maybe I misunderstood, but do you mean that your two beautiful girls in these pictures are paints?
I don't think paints come in these colors, do they? Where are the spots?

The "black" could also be a very dark blue.
