Silkie thread!

Thanks for the feed back. This website makes me more and more excited about growing my flock and doing things the right way. Thanks!

Don't worry about the humidity until day 18, and then make sure it is at least 65%, and if you can - higher is better.
My humidity fluctuates between 30% - 40% depending on my background humidity. I don't add any water at all.
Where i live if I don't add any water between day 1 and day 18, my humidity drops to 10%. Isn't 65% too high for the dry incubation method?

Dry incubation only refers to the first 18 days.

10% is way too low. Do you have a hydrometer, or is it your incubator telling you it is 10%? My incubator is always off by at least 10% in terms of humidity.

You can't have too much humidity after day 18. If the humidity is low, they will become shrink wrapped and suffocate.

I like to incubate with my humidity around the mid to high 30's. Then I will lock down in the 60 to 62 area. All bators are different, and I have found out the hard way,,back in the past when I first started, the room temp really does make a difference..in the humidity! When the room is cooler, the humidity would stay where I wanted it..temp too. But, when the room was warmer, both would change, higher. Makes sense.

I like this time of year to incubate, the room I use stays about the same all day in there now. Just a thought. :)

That's exactly what I aim for. :) Once it hits 60 - I start to add water through the vent though. Especially if I leave for any amount of time. Don't want the humidity to drop too much.

I have hatched in two places in my house, the living room on the main floor, and in the basement. Our basement hatches are always off by 1 day (late) and upstairs they are on time. Hatch rates are about equal. More problems with humidity falling upstairs.
