I got a very similar egg recently from a silkie as well, it looked all cracked, but it had healed and there was not a single real crack! It was weird!Hey! Look what I found when I went out again! I have heard, that some of these silly girls won't lay in a nest box. I have the perfect idea and area thought out for her and the other Silkies if this is what she is going to do. I found this one laying beside the wood of the run. It did rain yesterday, so I didn't look that closely for an egg, and I have been soo watching! Oh well, they will be moved soon, and I just have to hope she will lay in the area that I am making for her. She doesn't like nest boxes? I'll make a nice easy to get to soft place for her...here's the egg beside the other one I found today..
Little stink!
And chis..I think Cotton is a keeper...![]()
I will find the gals name that I got the eggs from
I mean, I know her real name now, but I will post her name on this forum. I have six of
her paints in lock down at this very moment.
Ok, the gal I got cotton from is 2hot2chicken. There is a similar name on here too..so look close when you go to look. She said she was going to start selling some of the paints eggs soon, she sent me some for free to see how they hatch.![]()
I can not, keep up with everyone here...all I can say is, I have just gone through some pages with some beautiful birds! They are all just gorgeous!
I will share a pic. of my young pullet..Cotton..bet ya cant' guess what color she is. Still has some growing to do, but I think she is a pretty girl
And, a picture of..drum roll please....an egg, from my Blue Splash. I knew she was getting close, she has started squatting. Such a sweet girl. And, I found it right where I figured I would find it..on the ground, outside the coop, and NOT in a nest box. Little stink. Going to make changes for the Silkies, different pen, hoping they will like the area of boxes better. We will see I guess.
Not a bad sized egg for a pullet..I know it can go either way with the first eggs, I am
hoping it will get a little bigger anyway. I compared it to my NH's egg she laid for me
today.
The NH has been laying for a couple of months now. I love the color of the Silkies egg.
A nice dark cream color.
Here's my white girl with the real original name..Cotton.)
Other than ASBCs website, where can I find a list of breeders in my state? I am looking for good quality, not super expensive eggs to hatch. I will eventually try getting eggs from Catdance or Bobbi Porto but for now I am not confident in my incubator (or my operation of said incubator) enough to get $50+ eggs from across the country...
That sounds a lot like my big RIR Ducky and my SG cross Little Man. Little Mans crow is more like a squeak than a croak though. Its too funny to watch them stand on opposite sides of the fence and crow/squeak back and forth at each otherThe funniest thing this morning...my white silkie roo has been practicing his crow. He's about 2 months old. He's actually been mimicking my Australorp roo, Bruce, that is about 3 months old now and has been crowing like crazy. When Bruce would crow, the silkie would think that it was his turn to respond. So, he would get in his crowing stance and stretch his neck and let out a croak. Then he would clear his throat, shake his head (almost as if to say, "hold on, let me try that again") and croak again. All the others just stare at him. Bruce is very tolerant of him.
