Silkie thread!

How long does it take for oxine to start showing that it's working for a respiratory fungal infection? I have been nebulizing my girl since monday, doing the 3rd treatment right now. I use the recommended dose, 7 drops to 1 gallon water. I made a gallon on monday and have been using the same one. Is that okay? or does the oxine break down after a while? would it be safe to up the dose at all? Has anyone done this?
7 drops per gallon? That doesn't seem right to me.. Sounds like too little. I was using quite a bit more I believe... I will check when I get home.

I used a mist bottle for plants and mixed it up that way. You should do it more than once a day. I couldn't do it more than twice, as we have work, so he got a treatment in the morning, and again at night. He was in a kennel with a humidifier pointed directly through the grate and a sheet covering the entire thing. That wasn't helping as much as I would have liked, so I started the misting. He showed improvement after a day, and was fully recovered 3 days after that. Finally started to crow again!

That would be great if you could check. I may have to go get a spray bottle. This isn't working as well as I would like.

Dollar store.

I am positive that it was more. Those spray bottles aren't any bigger than a litre, and I was putting more than 7 drops. I'll give you definite answers though tonight. I just have to go home and figure it out.

Sorry to interupt all the serious conversations, but I just had to share today's "attempt" haha. Hunny-Bunny was such a patient girl, I can't believe she just sat there and let me put this on her, but then I am still getting used to silkies and their docile temperments. My bantam cochins would have been squawking and flapping their wings in my face if I tried to pull this on them. The fit around her wings is off and they keep slipping through so if I ever decide to make another, I'll have to make some adjustments there. Her feet are wet from the rain or else she would be quite poofy. If I can figure out how to make them comfortable and fit to stay on, I am so making some for my two other silkie gals!

Quite frankly, 7 drops in a gallon is WAY too dilute. http://www.shagbarkbantams.com/oxine.htm lists a VERY MUCH STRONGER concentration; more than I would have thought, but this is the original webpage advocating oxine use in poultry, and the author is a reputable and knowledgeable poultry breeder. (Note, this is NOT the alleged silkie breeder who uses a similar farm name.)

https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/chicken-fungal-infections lists what I would have to say sounds like a better plan, although that may be because it is not mixung up an entire gallon at once.

I mix mine 1/8 teaspoon a gallon and fine mist above her head three times a day she was fine in about three days. The finer mist the better for them to breath. Are you having bubbly eyes or runny snoty nose? May be something worse if that's the case.
Here's some good threads
