Silkie thread!

Thank you very much! She's certainly not one of the best whites out there, but she is still cute - I mean, what silkie isn't  My frizzle silkie is a male. He was completely blue as a chick, so I think that around his neck is just leakage. He could be considered a partridge, I just don't know :p Congrats on your new one! Can't wait to see him/her :D Thanks Blessedchick! Phyllis is my favourite as well. I think she is one of my best silkies. And I'm like you - a sucker for partridge :love Oh and the fuzzy butts :D They belong to my partridge cochin hen.. Well not really 'belong' but she is fostering 7 silkie chicks.

Here are some more fuzzy butts, because I'm a sucker for them as well. Janet (mom) decided to molt while brooding, so ignore her unkempt appearance.

Everyone free ranging. I took down the pen. They had no grass left and that made me sad  Thankfully Steve is staying out of Jagger's way, so there haven't been any issues yet.

What a beautiful place you have! So neat to see them free range. I wish I could free range we have hawks eyeballing them all the time. I let some out in the orchard with me watching over them and a hawk flew right at us and scared the heck out of me I stood up and waved my arms and he veered off and landed in a tree right by us so I had to get them right back in. Love those little guys so cute, thanks for sharing.

Suzie, we have the same problem with hawks, right here in a neighborhood. My friend just lost her Wyondotte to a hawk. It was so aggressive after having to leave it there after killing it. It must have been interrupted. It kept flying over them when they went out. They had the chicken in a box, and it still kept flying over them, and landing on their coop. When they went to bury the chicken, that thing swept just feet above their daughter. That was it. They called authorities, and the guy said it was a coopers hawk. She had taken a picture of it just hanging out on the neighbors roof, so he could see what it was..didn't see it flying around though. Of course not. They had buried the bird by then.
So what comes by my house a few days later? Yep..I got swooped down on just as I came out of my coop's run Not as low as what happened to my friend, but, I would say it was only about 8 ft. above me. Needless to say, I kept my chickens in the run for days. Silkies, can not, see above them! My other chickens can, but they usually freeze when something like that flies over head! I had Red Hawks come by, but they aren't as brazen as the Coopers when you are out there. But one day, my neighbor heard a lot of chicken noise going on while I was at church. He comes out to look, and there was a huge hawk stuck on top of the chicken wire. He said he couldn't believe the span of the wings on that thing. Had to be a Red Tail. The Coopers are smaller, but stubborn! Read a bit up on them if you have a min. Unbelievable.

And I thought the swooping hawks only happened to me. One almost got a baby silkie. I think I was more scared than the silkie by the time I got to them. They are now not allowed out and I have a huge covered pen under construction for them :)

This girl is a Catdance pullet for those of you who have the catdance partridge chicks :) she was actually REALLY light as a chick, all 3 that I hatched were cream with brown and red stripes, and all 3 wound up being girls.

Lucky you!!! I have four, growing out, and I have a bad feeling that two, or three, may be boys and I need girls

At this time I have some Blue and Black chicks from show quality lines.
The black chicks are split to paint so they carry the paint gene and when bred to paints will produce high # of paint chicks.
Strait run $10 each

I also have some RARE Buff silkies these are 7 weeks old and are from some of the best bloodlines in the country.
They are amazing looking silkies and should be some great sshow and breeding birds.
The ONLY reason I have some for sale is because I am limited on space and can't keep them all......
Strait run but I can give it an educated guess.
$40 each

I never knew buff silkies were rare! LOL All straight run too with an educated guess? Oh boy... lol

Somewhere on Facebook I was reading that people use Frontline for cats and dogs on chickens to prevent & kill lice and such. As well as some products made for horses, goats, sheep, cattle, etc.. I came across this product in the barn, apparently it was from way back when our goats had lice.

Would this product be safe to put on chickens, a couple of drops worth? God forbid my silkies get lice again, I want to have something handy that'll kill the bugs. If Ultra Boss is not safe for chickens, I will go and find something else to have around. I think I will give DE a shot also, just treat everything to prevent problems. Would someone give me a refresher how DE works? Just sprinkle it in the coop & the run?
