I can't get over how much Rusty has changed as he grows. Just wanted to share.

He's really getting a black beard now.

He looks salmon!

Ok, they're out together, and the 'chicks' have decided that they don't like her near them haha. so they're just running away when she gets near LOL!! so as of now, it is working out!

I pretty much agree. But one thing you ought to do (if you didn't) is to put one in a wire cage inside the pen for several doays where they can see and hear each other, but not actually make physical contact. Let them get used to each other before putting them in together. Also, it can be easier to add several at a time than just one. Sometimes. I find that my hens are much more likely to fight for dominance than are the boys. However, that does not prevent a dominant hen (usually the smallest adult girl, lol) from putting young cockerels in their place when they are put into HER pen.
I did! sh'es been in a cage in there since saturday. maybe not quite enough :) but as of this moment they're working it out!

What happens if a silkie and a Old english game bantam cross? what does it look like? would it look freaky? LOL we're going to get some, but they'll be in the same coop together. If my son wants to hatch out some eggs, some eggs won't be pure silkie...

That beats me! I bet it would be interesting though.

As for the integration - running away is a good start. Give them places to hide.

Thank You Peeps for all the pics I love looking at them...
Now I must share mine...MY FIRST SILKIE...still wet!!!!

I hear Silkies are just so sweet I can't wait to take this little chick out of the bator...and why did I wait sooooo long.

That's awesome!! Soon you won't want any other kind, just the silkies! lol They're like candy...can't just have one. You have to have more...and more...and more....
Yes, what were you thinking waiting so long???

Thanks to you guys, I had a dream last night that I was picking up a box of day old silkies at the post office. ROFL!
You have officially been infected by the silkie virus.

Naw, its all good. I am going to try and let the one we have now, multiply a little. My son really wants to try hatching out some eggs bc he thinks it is cool. Of course, the silkies will be the ones hatching them out and all :) I don't plan on making a habit of it, but you never know :)
I didn't plan on making it a habit either. This was two years ago and I had 4 silkies. I figured that's all I need. Well..! They were so cute and easy to take care of, so why not let them hatch some eggs? Cool! I had 6 more the next spring. Now I have about 20 of them and I want MORE!

And, I made my first attempt of showing, took two of them to the fair not too long ago. Of course they had to get blue ribbons and $10 each which means I HAVE to do it again. And, with these chicks that I have growing right now, if I end up with any that are breeding quality, I want to have a breeding pen.

I'm sure you know what that means?
Don't worry. You'll be nutty like the rest of us in no time!

But it's, oh so fun, and rewarding.

I've been watching them from my kitchen window. Pompette is trying to 'hang out' with them, but they're like ahhhh! run away run away! LOL just now I watched and they allowed her to hang out a little bit before they freaked out again LOL

You think it'll be ok to remove the cage and let them sleep together tonight?

Will this work in adding a new roo to a rooster pen?
