Oh and my hen, well she roosted for the first time ever last night. She has NEVER NEVER NEVER ever roosted before! It was so strange to lock them up last night and see her roosting so high up!

Adorable little one! Looks about right. Between 1-2 weeks. I wouldn't guess over 2 weeks though.
most my silkies dont perch hect i dont even have perches in my breeding penshi everyone, have a question about a silkie and i figured ya'll would be the ones to ask. my silkie prefers to lay in the hay at night instead of on the perch, is this normal? her buddy an EE pullet sleeps on the perch and sonnie (the silkie) just sleeps close to the EE. note: the perch is very low so she only has to hop on it, since she doesn't fly or jump well. i have watched her do it before so i know she can make it up there effortlessly. the coop is also up 2ft high off the ground and very secure so not really worried about critters getting into it and getting to her. just curious....
Thanks, i was beginning to think that was the case. she was just so uninterested in it while all the others in the flocks would trip over their own feet to get to the perches.most my silkies dont perch hect i dont even have perches in my breeding pens
We just had this conversation a few pages back. We call it a silkie pile. They don't like to roost. A silkie pile needs at least 12 silkies (more is preferred) to make it proper.hi everyone, have a question about a silkie and i figured ya'll would be the ones to ask. my silkie prefers to lay in the hay at night instead of on the perch, is this normal? her buddy an EE pullet sleeps on the perch and sonnie (the silkie) just sleeps close to the EE. note: the perch is very low so she only has to hop on it, since she doesn't fly or jump well. i have watched her do it before so i know she can make it up there effortlessly. the coop is also up 2ft high off the ground and very secure so not really worried about critters getting into it and getting to her. just curious....
