Silkie thread!

This one is almost 6 months old also. The one in front is my boy for sure, he's been crowing for about a month now. The one in the back is larger that some of my girls but not all of them at this age. It doesn't have any long tail feathers yet, looks like a hens tail. It can be very aggressive sometimes but I didn't raise this one from a chick, I bought it from another bycer. I really hope for a girl, might just have to wait it out.

Here is it's backside to.
How do the feathers around the neck feel (hackle)? My boy is already proving rough in these areas. The girls are soft.

My boy here is not quite 5 months old yet. He has a small comb

This boy here is almost 6 months old. He is a frizzled silkie, but you can see he already has saddle feathers.. Based on comparing my known boys to your Columbian in question.. I'm thinking it is a girl. Especially if you are right at the six month age.

Most likely E or E^R allele, which are the blackest, most correct black birds.
I have a chick from a paint to paint breeding that is black with white tips on the wings. Im not very good at Silkie color genetics... does this tell me anything more than it might be a "blackest " black? It had some pink on the toes at birth but they have mostly colored. I think just one pink toenail now. ( 3 weeks old)

The hackle feathers are soft just the behavior has me questioning it's sex. I have seen my Colombian roo grab hold of it's head like he was going to try to mount it. I will have to get a few more pictures of her in a little while and post some more, maybe she will hold still for a picture.

I have a pullet that acts more like a cockerel than my cockerel does. She is definitely a pullet though!

Aoxa please let me know how your Silkies do on the fermented feed. I too am very interested in this and reading up on it. I started it and tried it out but mine didn't really like it and I had a lot of waste. Maybe I feed to much? Not sure but they didn't like the taste. I may be getting some big hens that were abandon that need a home and I was thinking of trying it on them but I'm not set up to do it outside and it was stinking up the laundry room. Doesn't really stink but strong smell. I would love to hear how you like it. And if you have any negative effects.

Have you tried just wet feed? I thought it would have tasted similar to that. My birds go crazy for wet feed. It's how I mix any medicine in so they consume it in less time than drinking water. IE: Worming, electrolytes, etc.

Also: I won't try it unless I know it won't freeze in the winter. I may just do it for treats. I don't want to have to worry about frozen food on top of frozen water :p

Just sharing some recent pictures of my silkies. Love these little birds and looking to add a few more next year.
This is Beaker, hoping for a girl.

The 2 new black girls, no names yet.

This is Grace, my only girl colored like this, love her.

MJ and the 2 black ladies, they are always together

One of my lovely ladies, so happy with the black girls I got.

Same girl as above but she was watching the dog.

Bonnie, one of my buff girls, one of my original 6.

Lola, my lovely odd ball. Don't know what to call her color. Very pretty girl.

Goose my only non bearded girl in the bunch, one of my favorites.

Sam's butt, he doesn't have the sheen to his tail feathers yet but it's getting there.

Bonnie and one of the black girls.

Sorry about the picture overload, I just love sharing my babies. Hope to add a few showgirl hens next year.
Very pretty and colorful flock!

Now I'm really looking forward to training some Ivy up the side of the barn thanks to Peepblessed's picture. The barn is rough wood, so I'm sure it would work really well!

That ivy tries to bury our home every year. It requires a lot of pruning. It's called Virgina Creeper but some call it "monster plant".

Yes, I have a colorful flock. I haven't decided what colors I want the most right now. I love my Colombian roo and my black girls, I absolutely adore them. My blues are nice to but I can't pick just one color, I'm gonna need more pens.
