Silkie thread!

How many people actually weigh their Silkies before they show them? Aoxa, do you weigh yours? Are yours all around SOP recommended weight? Have you have birds DQ'd for weight at shows?
I have not weighed mine, but they are not heavy at all. Yes, I've heard of people getting their birds DQ for size. Hawkeye has. Sonoran has said anything over some set ounces over weight will be disqualified. I think it's 10.. Cocks are supposed to be 36 oz.

Worth noting that a hen that is the mother of the majority of my silkies is what I'd call Micro. My cock is either just right, or a bit under that. Another hen I have is as big as my cock.

Ok, so I went to my friends today to help her build a new chicken coop. I checked out her crowing silkie, which hasn't crowed since the first day a few days back. The crest is perfectly round. If it is a rooster, is it always swept back? Because that one isn't swept back at all. all the other characteristics are questionable on it.

I do lol! Mine are exact. Someone else on here has said they have had a roo DQed for being too heavy, and at my last show the judge compared one silkie to one who was a bit smaller to check her weight. Apparently it weighed the same.

So how much does he weigh? How did he do at the show? How much competition? What judge? (I obviously know how big they are supposed to be .... )
I don't show him.

You can ask this on the breed/showing silkie thread. Hawkeye doesn't seem to frequent this one as much anymore. She's the one you want to talk to about the weight.

My Micro sized hen is as big as a bantam Ameraucana. That's how tiny she is. If I got a male that was the size of yours, I'd breed the two together and get one just right (as recommended by Sonoran.

Hawkeye is a friend of mine on Facebook. I've posted there as well.

Elliot IS going to appear at the Canadian Nationals next weekend so I'll let you know if he is DQ'd for all of his 50 ozs. (Quality judges there as well so opinions worth respecting.)

ETA: You might actually want to weigh them sometime. They may appear small but they may be mighty.

I know I should. Need to get a scale! :p

They were comparable visually at the provincial show (my girls). There were 38 to compare them to.

I definitely do want to weigh them! From what they told me over there, if the judges feel like the bird is to heavy them can DQ them, and if that is argued, they may (or may not) have a scale to weigh the birds in question.
