Silkie thread!

I have them both ways - perfectly rounded and swept back. I'll let you know after next weekend how they are received - assuming they aren't all DQ'd for being overweight!

(I believe perfectly rounded is preferred but not entirely expected in males .... )
Oh ok. so then the silkie may still be a rooster. it doesn't really have a comb, but it might have saddle feathers. I couldn't tell 100% bc I don't really know what they look like IRL on silkies. but some did have a greenish sheen to it, so I assume that must be saddle feathers, right?

I have a black (out of blue) cockerel that has virtually NO comb and a seriously rounded crest that I always thought was a male because of his attitude - even right out of the egg - but he appeared so "female". I wasn't sure until he crowed. I'm not disappointed because I look forward to using him in my breeding program. Unfortunately, he lacks green sheen which proves he isn't truly black (which doesn't have anything to do with sex but rather colour/quality). So I hope you aren't disappointed if your bird proves male. Sounds like he may have a lot to offer!

Leo Pierre didn't have a very big comb for a long time and then "Wammo" it just started growing into a big walnut-shaped form all the sudden. Also, he is more like 6 1/2 months old.

Here are pictures of him at 3 or 4 months old........a big change, huh!

Looks like he's got some attitude there, in the picture on the right, with his chest out and all!

A romantic scene, looking into the sunset, side by side, in love...with poop on their butts.
That's a beaufitul picture...even with the poopy butts. lol

What if they are out of a group of blues, has the green sheen, but bluish feet? ACK having trouble with the black blues. My pullet is my prettiest pullet, but I can't figure out what she is. She doesn't have any blue undercoat that I can tell. She's not glossy, deep black -but has that sheen. Pam

"Blacks" do spit out of blues (genetically) but they aren't usually the quality of black out of an exclusively black breeding program so I'm reluctant to call them black even though genetically, they probably are (i.e. lacking the Bl (blue) gene.) She may very well have a green sheen on top but "smutty blue" underfluff. If the girl has quality, I wouldn't hestitate to use her with blue and splash. The result might be darker blue and splash chicks but that might not be a problem depending on the cock you are using or your goals.

Such a great day at the Sussex county poultry show!! I came home with some special little additions today
