Silkie thread!

Mr. Fluff in the house for his daily snuggle.

And on a car ride.

And sitting on my hand convinced the camera is a treat!

I love him and he is very spoiled. He weaves in and out of my legs like a cat and begs for attention.
How cute it that. I don't have any that will freely come over to sit on my lap. I have Broke Beak (crossed beak d'Uccle) that comes inside to eat her mash I make and she will wander over to me at the couch and she will fly up to the coffee table but I have to grab her to hold her. Maybe one day. The chickens will come to the door when I shake the bag of Meal Worms though, haha. I'm trying with the new silkie chicks to hold them more. I hope this happens with mine soon.
Handling them from a young age will help them to be friendlier. Some just never come around as pets, though.

I've found they don't really like to be held so much as just be in my presence, like sitting on the arm of the sofa or next to me in the car. Some of them beg to be in my lap and will sit there for hours as long as I pet and stroke them.

Others will do whatever it takes to get away from me.

Well that makes me feel better. If I can just get a couple that will snuggle with me I will be a happy camper. Thanks Sumatra.

Took a couple of pics of the chicks and one of my roo. I know he is pet quality but I still think he is beautiful.

First one is the Porcelain, Partridge, Black or B/S, and then the Buff

There is my Lavender standing there looking beautiful :)

I just love my chicks and my 6 month olds.

hey guys.. can you tell me what color eggs your silkies lay? Ive hnestly never busted any of my showgirls or silkies on the nest and never really thought much about it until today when i found one of them hoarding eggs. I cant tell the difference between theirs and the bantam cochins... is there a difference? Curious to know what i am hatching here.

My only hen that is laying lays a light cream colored egg. But thats probable over for a while since she is now sitting on five eggs. Its almost a creamy white color.

5 ft. is more than enough but as mentioned, they need protection from hawks and fence climbers like cats. I had a cat kill a small silkie hen. :(
I'm sorry Peepblessed :( My cats are terrified of my chickens, and they are not small cats by any means. One is even (or was) an avid hunter of small rodents. They won't even go close to the barn.. Which sucks because I do have mice in there. Also, a 1 foot fence would keep my silkies in.
Kids, husband and animals alike all manage to face me with their backs when I am trying to take photos. And that is the "not deliberate" stuff. Youngest son likes to run away, throw his hands in front of his face, etc. Dog likes to stick her nose in the camera lens.
 Even your avatar has her back turned towards you. I hate having my picture taken, so I can relate ;)

My eggs are an off white.

I'm sure your new chicks will be friendly if you spend time with them.
I'm trying but, it's hard to catch those little buggers in the back yard, haha. They run under a bush or under the potting shed and I can't get them. I do have better luck when they are inside the potting shed catching them. I brought my lavender, Violet, inside yesterday and held her for awhile on my lap. She started going to sleep and had her neck stretched out across my arm, it was so cute. Have a great day.
