Any one know what this is and how I can treat my silkie? She has sore on the front, back and side of her neck, under her wings. I already looked for mites and lice none. She is my only hen with sores

Hi!

I've not seen this before, and it's a little hard to discern what this is.

Just to be sure, I'd get some Permethrin/garden powder and dust her well with it. Since she's the only one with it, it makes this harder how she would be the only one with mites, but she's the only one with whatever it is.

Are there mosquitoes where you are? If so, Fowl Pox could be a possibility, but that's highly contagious, and other chickens would have it too.

I'd get some Vetericyn spray for the sores, as that'll at least clean and disinfect them and promote healing, or you could use some Hibiclens or iodine, as they are both antiseptic agents used for skin cleansing and wound care, and then apply some triple antibiotic ointment.

Hi, Thank you for responding. I have vetericyn and triple antibacterial ointment and permethrin. I’ll use it on her. Do you think I should treat her with elector psp to be on safe side? We have a lot of fruit trees and birds who like to visit of course the mice and rats that come with our neighbors fruit trees.
We do have mosquito I live in Redlands Ca. My flock had fowl pox last summer bad. She and 3 others are new to my flock. I bought them at 3 days old as chicks I want to say they are about 7 months now. But the other 3 are fine and she has looked like that for about a week and half now. All my chickens are molting so I thought she was too till I got close enough to her to see she had sores.
I thought of soaking her in a epson salt bath firth then putting some applying the stuff but I don’t want it to hurt her because of her sores.

Just a thought but I would probably dab an OTC anti fungal on those areas and see if it improves (after double checking the ingredients list is safe for chickens.)

A warm Epsom salt bath won't hurt her, and since she's seeming healthy otherwise, you could do that.

I haven't used Elector, but I know that it's purported to be bird-safe, and I also know it's very expensive. I just don't know if that would be painful to her with open sores, so I'd cover her sores first with the antibiotic cream. As long as you have that, I'd spray them all and your coop too, including nests and roosting bars. It might be worth going around your coop too, at least with the permethrin. This is all saying it's mites or lice, so if you do all of this and it doesn't help, let us know.

How's her egg laying? Does she have any odor to her? Is she eating, drinking, dust bathing normally? Can you check her crop first thing in the morning before she has anything to eat or drink and make sure it's flat and empty?

To me it looks like she may have a fungal infection (Favus?), scaly face mites(?), or...

Hard to know. Her ear looks to have a little infection, but that could be debris and irritation from scratching.

I'd be inclined to swab/clean wounds and skin with Hibiclens (Chlorhexidine), then apply an anti-fungal like Miconazole or Clotrimazole to the skin.

Don't dip her if you are treating for lice/mites. Personally, I'd use Ivermectin or a Permethrin based poultry dust for lice/mites.

Be sure that skin under wings or hidden dries up a bit after you apply your ointments/treatments. Moisture is going to make things worse I would think.

Just my 2¢

I figured if I’m going to do one i might as well do all of them lol to be on safe side. I’ll definitely let you know

her ear does resemble that. I dusted her but no bugs came off. I will order the Hibedens. I’m keeping her separated and quiet.
