I have been hatching a lot of chicks for my NEW Ameraucana project![]()
I have a crestless Cream Brabanter under my Silkied Lavender Ameraucana. Hatching lots of nice F1'sThey are all black with nice beards and muffs and NO crests![]()

Not too sure what to expect with combs but so far the chicks look like they might have pea combs. I have to grow them out and see what happens. F2's in the Fall I should get some Cream and mottling as well as Silkied.feathering and since I'm throwing Lavender in the mix I suppose Porcelains![]()
Not sure if I should make a separate smooth line of these as well or just use my silkied splits for the smoothsMight be a pain trying to breed out the Silkied feathering for those that want them in smooth only.![]()
Anyway my Cream Brabanter girl is so friendly she wants to be a human so bad and she lays me a HUGE white egg every day. Nice big Blue eggs will be easy for this line![]()
Here is my Brabanter girl- it's not the best pic but shows her coloring![]()

Personally, and speaking from experience...... I'd work on the project in hard feather first. Juggling the silkied factor on top of it detracts from the core project. And like you say - they are mre people into non-silkied projects - once you like them - easy enough to factor in the silkied feather genes.
Btw = your lav silkieds have started hatching . Think I was off a day - Sat set late. 1 out and 2 more pipped - they're just getting started - but that fist chick went from pip to out in about 3 hours =
e
2 out, both black splits, 3rd starting to zip, think at least one more has pipped.
Meanwhile - 5 out from my choc/mauve SiAm pen, 1 zipping, 2 more pipped that I saw........
Got to clean out the stacking brooder good today - see what all went silkied and take a count - whoot!. Anybody up for split chicks? PM pls. Full silkied and choc/mauves aren't going anywhere - but splashes could be mauve splash and any male could be split for choc. NPIP testin the 11th too.
5 out now - 2 more pipped! ALL splits so far tho.........![]()
Looks like 6 - all splits, letting the others coast a bit longer but this isn't bad!
