Why would 50 percent of chicks come out mottled? I don't see any mottling on either of them so it would be 25 percent at best.
The rooster is mottled. The hen is not but may carry the mottled gene. If the hen does carry the mottled gene, 50% will be splits and 50% will be mottled. Here is a mottled breeding chart that I learned from

That means that the rooster has one mottling gene, it doesn’t mean he’s pure for mottling. The chance is either 0% or 25% depending on if the hen carries mottling too.
