Silkies from Garry Farm "BARGAIN" ?

caf.gif

Well, I candled and all eggs have movement, but 3 of the eggs I have. One I just couldn't see in (rir) the other two were silkies and well honestly at that point I was in a rush I knew the temp was dropping for the eggs so trying to hurry. Now I'm worrying because I have thermometers placed in the bator in each corner and one is reading 97! Also, there is a 10% humidity difference in the hovobator thermometer itself and the thermom/hygrometer combo. ugh I posted on the easter hatch hoping for some help on what to do about all of this. I am SO close and don't want to lose these babies :(

Whew! How stressful hatching chicks is! lol

Oh I can totally understand! My incubator totally spiked on day 14, I had 3 thermometers reading differently, so frustrating! I was convinced I was going to lose everyone, and even went to the farm store to buy a back-up incubator! Luckily I was able to return it! Go with the closest matched thermometers! Do you have an old fashioned "under the tongue" thermometer? I calibrated one of those, and then used that for accuracy. My hygrometer was always off on the digital, and closer on the dial reader. It is so stressful! Don't give up on the eggs with no movement unless it is obvious - very few of my eggs showed movement going into lockdown. I think they are resting and no room. If it looked good - and didn't smell - I kept it in!

Nope don't have an under the tongue thermometer but I have just went with the ones closest n temp. I am mainly worrying about humidity at this point I figure if the incubator has got the eggs this far then I'm good lol but feels like I'm constantly pouring water in! I work until 3 today so anxious to get home and check things out. My humidity is having periods of dipping down I hope they will be ok, I figure that's better than to high.

Kind of hoping they all just hatch while I'm gone haha then I won't be hovered over the eggs all day when I am home!

Hahaha! I know , I get nothing done during lockdown, and my kids have gotten used to my cheering and squealing when "something happens". My humidity would barely hit 60% - and often dropped to 58 and I had a great hatch. I think sometimes people go too high - and then they NEVER dry off in there! Anxious to hear how they look when you get home! This is day 19 right? So you may not see anything until tomorrow (although a pip would be a wonderful reassuring sign!)

LOL!
Nothing yet! I have hovered over the bator hoping for some signs of life lol! I came in and the humidity had dropped to 38% :( but not much i can do while I'm at work and to nervous to keep opening to put more paper towels in and wet them. I work tomorrow til 3 as well. It is completely silent and almost eery in the Bator right now lol I'm biting my nails for the little chickies. I told David if we get one of each breed heck I'd be happy! Sad for those who passed but happy to have at least a couple chicks. Praying they all make it though!

I would love to gave a little pip when i get home from work tomorrow, i would be so happy! :) we will see.

How are your new ones doing?

Can you put a wet sponge in there? Might stay wet longer than paper towels? Maybe mist with warm water?

Mine new kids are doing great! I HAVE to go take a pic of the Garry silkies - they are getting so fluffy and adorable. The 18 new ones are already getting their little wing tips. They will quickly outgrow the brooder! I was not prepared to have so many hatch. My husband and I were in the backyard today figuring out how to expand the second coop to accomodate everyone without it looking like Sanford and Sons backyard! (you are probably too young to remember that show!). He is being very sweet about my addiction.... of course he has made some significant "fun" purchases recently, and I have been very "sweet" about that hahahahaha!

Hoping for some bator action soon for you! That first hatch is such a relief...then you worry about another egg hatching so it has a buddy! It never ends...

Finally I reappear. These past 5 days have been mega crazy with internet crashing roughly 30 times a day....Oh Praying on that hatch noahsmom...Yes moist sponge but put in quickly. If your incubator historically likes to loose temp, put a small acquariums tubing and get a super small funnel for it and place in a ventilation hole - far from the working parts of the incubator - fan, electrical panel etc. That way you can see add warm water as you neeed.... be super super care of warm water spray, if there is any pipping or zipping. and does the incubator have a plastic tray for the water....If not, sometimes you can buy a plastic tray insert for them..... I'll try to be more glued here and thanks for all the updates and help you are all giving each other....That's so super!!!! Have a blessed day. Nancy

Thanks for te advice and yea I'm young for the show but I did watch it lol I have always loved the older stuff. Use to love to watch threes company too, happy days, all in the family and the Jefferson's lol and really all those other 70s shows! :) if they were on I'd still watch then!
Also I was trying the moist paper towels in the bottom trays from a member on here who said they wld just rewet the paper towels. I'm probably to far into the hatch at this point to put in a sponge? Still seeing zero activity in the bator lol I just want to call off tomorrow and Wednesday!

Oh no I can't stand computer troubles.. :( and thank you nancy I can use all the prayers I can get. I think I will grow a gray hair or two over these eggs lol
My incubator is the newest hovabator genesis 1588 it does have a plastic tray for water and I am filling it up as I go, I try not to do to much at one time as it raises pretty quickly. Also, my bator doesn't drop temp quickly if I just open the circulation hole add water and then close it back quickly. I do have the eggs placed away from that area so no water will get on them.
