Silkies: love them or hate them?

I think we need someone who has had a silkie roo tell us how they get along with non-silkie hens.

my friend has 1 silkie roo one silkie hen and a bunch of other bantams in the coop together. the silkie doesnt seem to mind at all he is the man of the coop even though there is another young cockeral in there

The one lone silkie hen in our vastly mixed flock rules the roost. We were quite concerned that the BO rooster would harm her, but months of close observation proves that she is too ill tempered for him to deign to notice anymore. Treats her as invisible, but stays just out of reach, really rather amusing. Our BO rooster is very large, and very good father to all the chicks. Very sweet and gentle.

The silkie hen 'Tribble' was very tempermental protective brooding...sat rock still, silent, until my hand was in range. Then peck-peck-peck as hard and fast as she could. Since that's not hard at all, I laughed myself silly every time. None of Tribble's eggs are fertile, but she'll sit on anything. Even on a figment of her imagination.

Hair gel on the top knot lasts about a week without rain. Thanks to my then 18 y.o. DS, I am now aware of this tidbit.

Silkies definitely get noticed. DH would get more if we could. I'm not wild one way or the other about this breed. Darned cute though.

I love them I have a few :) I have two that are a breeding pair and they are buff x partridge. then I have three black silkies .. Id like to get more eventually but i think that they are cute. My rooster is really friendly we can pick him up and he doesn't get mad nothing like that. or the hens and he doesn't mind.
