Silkies Of A Different Color

Are the pics on here or did you mean you had some at the show?

I brought a couple of breeder cockerals to Shawnee. An F2 to deliver and an F1 if I had found someone who was serious about working on them. Neither have silkie feathering, and the F1 is a lot farther from type and traits than the F2. The khaki is the oldest of my F3s, and I showed him at Shawnee--way too young, but I wanted feedback, and I got a ton of favourable comments--even Eric Kutch said he really liked the colour and where I am at with him.

There are Red Pyle silkies out there already. I know of a few breeders that have had them pop out in there birds a few times. They are interesting to see, when you walk down a row seeing white after white, they will make you stop and take a double look! At first you think, oh that poor thing has gotten a cut, until you realize the bird isn't wet! LOL

oh WOW those would be some eye candy!!!!!!

pics anyone?

does the breeder have a website?

I had a few years ago, and never managed to reproduce them. Girls only, which has been the experience of most silkie breeders. Either Marge U or George had a male quite a few years back.

A little birdie told me that there may be some hatching out this spring (a breeding experiment/test). Nope, no one I've named here

Yes. BBR + dominant white

Dumb question, I know, but what is BBR?

And are Red Pyles all over dark 'red' or just on the wings?

Black breasted red. One copy of dominant white replaces black pigment, but does not affect red pigment. Gender pattern areas remain red/gold, the remainder of the bird is white. Autosomal red or mahogany is present in may red pyles.

Thanks so much, it makes a lot more sense when you know the abbreviations.

Darn, no I didn't get to see them. I barely saw your khaki, but I don't remember why.

I know I was with Sundy. She had asked if I had seen the khaki. We went over and I vaguely remember meeting the owner who I now know is you (sorry, I was looking at him). I remarked about the him being so young. Then you said something about how long it would have been before there was another good chance for people to see, etc....we all agreed and then.............nothing. I think we were both called away for something and that was it. I think that was later on Sat and with things shutting down so early we were rushing to get out. I thought things would run later Sunday but more than half had cooped out and were gone when we got there. It was all I could do to track down the new cages I had ordered for the kids and help them coop out.

Shawnee was way too short!

So 2 copies of the dun make the khaki (caramel coloring) and one copy make chocolate, but appears more of a sun-bleached black? The F3s will be bred to blacks and the best F4s back to the best F3s?
