Silkies tag-teaming the 2 batches of eggs.

Last update for several hours......
4 chicks are completely out of their shells, one is finishing drying off, one is starting to dry off and the last three are well on there way outta the shells. The big brown one still hasn't pipped but, it's likely a day or two (at most) behind these chicks..... After all, I did pluck it off the run and set it in with them when a few eggs were already under broody care.
This is before I inspected the other 3 pipp'd eggs

Not that hard to do.

Where's the mamas in those pics of chicks?
I sat her just to the right of my camera hand and she watched me take a couple pics without pecking my hand.

A wee bit ago I took everyone out bowls/plates of chopped up cabbage, spinach, plain yogurt & squished bananas.
Put some yogurt and my finger and as I slowly raised it to momma beak she did a cranky soft squak then as she gently pecked at the white stuff she paused to taste it and then quickly was more gentle and pecked it almost all off my finger. So I spent a few minutes putting dabs of yogurt and banana on my finger. She enjoyed it and one of the chicks decided to test it out as momma seemed to like it.... It had a couple pe is of both.... Seemed to like it as well.

Okay. Signing off for now. Gots things to do shortly.

Congratulations! After ours were “born”, you would’ve thought that I gave birth to them myself because I was so excited! I get the the name “crazy chicken lady” honest, that’s for sure.

A bit of a surprise happened last night. One of the second phase of eggs not only pipped but, fully hatched so I has to shift it to the rest of the 1st wave... I tried to post 2 tims last night but kept falling asleep at the switch ...

So this makes a total so far:
1 black
2 salt-n-pepa's
5 yellowish white IMG_20200529_212937899.jpg

Well it's 9:30 PM Saturday night & we have finally got the big brown egg to Pip... And in the other batch one silkie egg is now pipping as well.
So 'flappy' & Tina went to the other crate for tonight with the second batch of eggs very smoothly. I plan to get a pic or two of the pipping stage for both eggs then too.

The hope for maintaining this documentation approach is two fold; to be able to go back and study the egg stages of development and better know the ~18-22 odd day cycle better. As well as have a good reference for anyone else in the future as I made sure to link the other thread that really helped me realize my error and help the girls have a smooth and low stress hatching.....

yesterday before the pipping of 'brownie' started:

as for Flappy and Tina, she had 2 pip and hatch last night as well.... I oopsed and didn't have enough backing board around the nesting box last night.... the young ones had fallen down to the DLM below and had settled in together in the corner... chirping away... as soon as I had them in the nest again 'Flappy" was all about adjusting them under her winds and flattening out. So, here is one that hatched late last night while the light colored one was still pipping.

My favorite part is when I go check on them before it gets dark and then mom is sitting there with all these little heads coming out of her body
