Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

My first set of home grown silkies! They’re going to a friend’s mom who lost there’s and are going to be so spoiled. I just adore them so much Can’t wait til spring when I can hatch my own! Blackie is broody right now and the crankiest lil puff lol

Blue roo over blue or black hens, they don’t look mixed right? Not all have 5 toes though. Potential moms are silkie, MF D’Uccle, bantam Light Brahma, and barred bantam somethings. 3 blues and one black chick by my guess?

I have 2 huge black rock hens, 1 wyandotte and 2 speckled leghorns with my silkie flock without any problem. I used to have white silkies which were much smaller that these I have now and always kept a few bigger hens with them. that way I keep the male/female ratio under control.

My dogs just don't care. They know the chickens. Zeus just laid here until Goku jumped off. No one attacking anyone. Just a go over the dog instead of around.

The large fowl will actually run under Athena if they are free ranging and see a hawk. They know she will protect them. The silkies get in the way if she's rat hunting by trying to help. Athena will let a rat get away if there is risk of biting a chicken. The large fowl follow and stand back unless she digs up a nest. Then it's a fight for the babies.

He's partridge. No other colors in it. I've been working to get better black on the underside.


I try to stay away from the moorhead, but the eggs I ordered in 2021 all had it. So I'll have to work it back out of the flock. Partridge in silkies isn't supposed to have it, even though so many people like the look of the black head.
