What is it that causes seemingly so many penciling/lacing to have the black head?
She's gorgeous in colors and penciling/lacing!!!

The head color is a separate gene. Many people rather like the look. It is not standard for partridge. I can't remember if they DQ or just fault you for it at shows.

I've never fully gotten rid of it in my flock, just didn't show up often. Just take time to breed it back out mostly again. I have a lovely red-headed boy that will help with that.

This 2nd gen boy is interesting. He does have mottled skin. Red comb and purple wattles. Feet are mostly white but he has black skin patches. He wasn't cooperating for pictures as I'd just put out treats and he wanted his share. I'm not keeping him. Have to be really strict on roosters.

This is a very big boy. His mother is one of my older hens who's well over 3 pounds herself. He's only got 4 toes so also not a keeper.

Over the side yard fence, a neighbor with 3 silkies told me yesterday that silkies were hard to find here in So. Calif. He said 2 hens and a rooster would cost $50. Is that true? I want to buy several hens this spring that will sit on and hatch their eggs and eggs from full sized hens. Would silky hens be my best choice?
