Sounds good.

Yep, last thing I want is her getting off her unhatched eggs.

Oogy hasn't been the best sitter. She's been on and off her eggs like a yoyo and then when she sits on them she doesn't always sit down fully. She's kinda just hunched over them.

She is very young though and I wouldn't usually let a broody her age hatch eggs but I suppose she's still done alright so far.

She'll figure it out.
I've only used broodies 3 times so far, & had problems a couple times. Our Porcelain D'Uccle hen made the mistake of sitting on a fake egg, & left her babies to run for their lives. One chick was running everywhere peeping it's little head off, & the second we found was cold, & barely alive.

Ah yes I think I remember you telling me about how you saved that chick just before it was almost too late.

Some broodies are good, some aren't unfortunately...

I may let Oogy sit again in the future but only with maybe 2 or 3 eggs.

Yes, I did share that story with you once.

Our silkie made no mistakes, she recently weaned them away from her at 6 weeks of age, I care for the chicks to help them along, & they think I'm second mama. They love me so much, they fly onto my arms, & shoulders like little parrots. I'll record it sometime. I even trained them to fly onto my arm on command.

Good luck.
I'll be getting hatching eggs from a Show Quality Silkie Breeder in Ohio next Spring that I Ordered from earlier this year.
I just hate that my show quality craigslist breeder wasn't. At $2/egg I shouldn't whine too much! My wife is happy with them. I don't claim the silkies as my own even though I am out serious money on their enclosure but they do take some great photos.

The Sumatras and OEGB are mine though. I still want to add Malays but the wife is afraid of this breed after my springtime sumatra spurring incident from a 5 pound chicken. Granted, I am not in a hurry to raise them as a 3 foot tall rooster who weighs in at 9 pounds might not be the best free ranger for our property. I am sure they would deal with the winter hawks here just fine once mature, and hopefully leave our dogs alone.

Finally, I do have one Partrige Frizzle I can't wait to figure out where she is dropping her nuggets and get those incubating. She is worth propogating and I see her getting mated.

It isn't worth putting her and my preferred rooster in small cages to accomplish this. We simply prefer them being happy and free vs confined in a breeding pen here. We will learn to spot her eggs instead.

After all we know which of the other 5 layers eggs are by color, however, we added 12 silkie hens in spring and they are just coming in to lay. Today was a 7 silkie egg day. Thank goodness we have a local family who takes in all of our extra eggs. I don't like feeding them to the dogs.

I imagine that is my task for tomorrow. I have a box with 4.5-5 kilos of eggs now. I keep shooting for low productivity hens and missing.
