Also when do broody hens leave their chicks?
Wow, 4 months!? Is that just silkies? I'm so hoping for a hen (and not 100% roos) so I can hatch next year.Cute pics
It varies at what age the mother hen leaves their chicks.. mine care for their chicks untill around 3-4 months then they start telling them to go away with a peck or chase them away -but not hurt them, just encouraging their chicks to go off on their own.
Once chicks are fully feathered you can seperate mumma hen and chicks then mumma will get over it and go back to laying again, if you don't take chicks away then she will most likely continue to care for them till she thinks it's time for them to go off on their own, possibly around 3-4 months.Wow, 4 months!?
