Ain't that the truth!🥰
My silkie hens make the most noise out of all my chickens! They almost sound like small geese to me. If they see a cat, they warn the whole neighborhood!🤣
Mostly they are very quiet except before they lay their eggs and they squawk then after when they blast out their egg song - which I have learnt is also a predator call/alert. I have read that they do this egg song to 'lure any predators' away from their eggs. I can believe that, and have seen many other birds do the same thing.

And i had thought my house silkies were one offs!! 😆 i was like.. girls.. shhhh.. you're illegal, inside my house, w the doors and windows closed, and i can still hear you outside!! I actually had a couple wild ducks land in my yard at that time. I wondered if their noise attracted them.

I am looking at some silkied easter eggers... since i want both breeds, but have a chicken limit. I wonder what they sound like 🤔
Well I am going to keep one of my niece's 'easter egger type' chicks she hatched out (for her class) that is a Rooster - he is only 11 weeks so not yet ready to do any serious breeding, but once that starts I will have my niece use the Silkies' eggs for her classroom projects. So I will let you know hahaha! I eggspect 'hairy' leggs!

That is beautiful! I have gotten fed up with my prefab and I am looking for a coop for my chickens. I already have a run so that coop won't work. I'm looking into sheds and kids playhouses I can modify!

If I end up getting cochins this year I'll make the thread
What Cochin colour would you like? I really like the mottled ones but honestly I guess I would be Ok with any colour. I will be hopefully hatching some in spring :fl

Omg! Getting jealous of the chickens! :drool
They have one model that's a bit longer, for not much more money. I'm considering that so i can add a fold up seat/bench to sit inside with them. Really can't wait. There is a little chicken door option too, i was thinking that might be cool to add a chunnel to an enclosed organic garden. One where i toss whatever leftover seeds/plants I have. Seriously, who needs people? This is way more fun!

Yesterday, I thought, "Are those streamers?"

Today, my husband let me sleep in a bit and let the chickens out of the coop for the first time.

He said, "I got to hear your guy crowing really well today."
Me: "Who!? Which one?!"

I have never even heard him attempt a crow but, apparently, he went for 10 minutes this morning. I was fairly certain it was a he anyway.

So that's one down, 4 to go. Really would love to have at least one hen. 😆🤞

Was told black when I got him as a chick but thinking he is dark blue with that fluff. He is 14 weeks.
