To me it sounds like he is. How old is Joey? When my boys started crowing it was screechy, not honky.
Lol!
He's 11 weeks old and I've heard and seen him crowing...scratchy throat sounding. This is totally different though. It's almost like he's mumbling under his breath for lack of a better way of putting it....LOL?!
I'll try to get a video tomorrow so yall can see.
My daughter was out there today helping me in coop and said he sounded like he was whiny...she's got a 3 year old! Lol

I LUV her!!!
So is this a new color we are starting to see across different type chickens?
Wondering bout a satin silkie in that color!!!

There are some breeders working on mille fleur projects who are starting to breed some porcelains as well in satins. :D

This breeder on Facebook has a porcelain satin you can see. Her post from January 20th shows a porcelain on a book page and her post from December 16th shows the original picture. She's got some younger porcelains you can see too but the pattern isn't really easily seen on the young ones. I expect some other breeders working on mille fleur may expand to porcelain as well. Porcelain is just mille fleur diluted by lavender. They have other fun colors too like confetti which is mille fleur with barring added. 😊

Oh my goodness! You know all the fun stuff @LynnaePB! She has some seriously beautiful satins! 😍 And the porcelain color is as gorgeous as I imagined!!

So I have a rookie question—how do you get satins? Are they a specific cross? Always using Polish? Or do they also use Cochins? What about crossing a MF with a Silkie? I’m just curious! I have a bantam Cochin rooster and I might consider hatching some eggs by him if he is ever accepted by the bantam ladies. So far he’s kept his substance from both Betty and Fuzzy and I’m not sure that the other Cochin ladies are quite ready for him yet. He has been focusing his attention on the same 7 standard ladies that my Ameraucana boys are sharing and not only is he too small but they don’t like it and he’s being chased by the roos and pecked and chased by the ladies! I want him to leave them alone so the ladies don’t get overwhelmed. I have 12 females but only 7 being harassed! Best way to convince him to chill out? Or will I just need to rehome him if things keep up? I really wanted a chance at Silkie-Cochins to see if I might get satins!

I agree, she really does have some gorgeous birds! :D

A lot of satins started with a cochin x silkie cross but they aren't really considered satins until they are bred back to the silkie standard by back crossing to silkies for multiple generations. They are considered by a lot of enthusiasts as a project breed that is bred to the same standard as silkies other than feather type. Cochins are a good choice if starting your own satin line because their overall type is already similar to a silkie. You can use other breeds too but you may have more work getting back to the correct type. Polish type is very different but they do have the advantage of that nice crest. The mille fleur satins were actually started using I believe tolbunt polish, mille fleur cochins, and mille fleur d'uccles and crossing with satins and silkies.

Getting already established satins from a good line is definitely the easiest and cheapest (in the long run) way of getting satins. Having some fun cochin/silkie mixes would definitely be neat too though and while maybe not technically satins yet they'd be adorable! Of course if the journey to get from the initial cross to satins really appeals to you the cost and effort of starting your own line just might be worth it! :)

I'm afraid I don't have any good advice on how to help your little cochin boy chill out. I have way too many boys to know what to do with and they drive me nuts! 😅 I hope you are able to find a good solution though, I'm sure your silkies and him would make some adorable babies! 🥰

Of course you are very welcome! 😊

New color development projects sure are fascinating and so neat to follow along with! Lauren definitely knows her stuff when it comes to mille fleur satins. I'm really enjoying learning from her posts in the mille fleur silkies and satin group on Facebook (I usually just lurk, but soak up everything I can). 😂

Thank you! That’s really helpful! I’m going to carefully ponder the path I want to take…it’s tough because I like silkies, Cochins, MFs and Ameraucanas and all of them are intriguing breeds to potentially consider breeding someday.

Emilio is probably not the best example of a Cochin rooster but he’s not terrible either. He’s actually a pretty good boy mostly. Barely crows, keeps a very substantial respect for humans, and doesn’t really push too many boundaries. He usually seems to know where the line is before he gets in trouble, but tonight was the first time I’ve seen a real scuffle! He got beat up a bit by my main roo and then pecked at and chased by the hen too! Guess he will either learn or he won’t! We will see. I need more hens…I got him 4 more bantam ladies and I’m getting two splash Ameraucana started pullets in late March for the big boys…hopefully it will eventually give my 7 ladies a reprieve!

I learn so much from all you smart chicken people! ❤️😍❤️

These four cuties hatched yesterday.
They will move over to the brooder later today. Getting blue chicks from Kana so far!😊

They are cute! That's cool that the breeder does have a public page, I have never been in fb an always only can see the public things.
Omg all the broodies on Jan 28th 😆

Omg they are beautiful :love Adorable 🥰 🥰 🥰
Did the 5th baby hatch in the meanwhile?
When are the other 32 eggs due to hatch?

Anyone here on the thread interested in FREE Silkie hatching eggs? I would not charge for the eggs just postage. I am getting so many fertile eggs and I just can’t incubate anymore! At least not for a while. I still have 32 eggs in incubators waiting to hatch!
This is a very temporary offer and you would need to be ready to incubate immediately.
I think I’m saturating the market here with my Silkies!🤣
PM me if you are interested!
What a great offer ❤️
