Yall had two assists finally hatch on their own at 12:30am...they looked fine and were doing like normal hatches.
I got up at 5am and they are both laying there dead. I know @LadiesAndJane is middle of her night so hadn't heard from her.
What do yall do with the littles that don't make it? This is my first time having any die that hatched 😔.

Oh no I'm so very sorry about the two little ones. 😢:hugs

If I have a baby that doesn't make it still in the incubator I take it out and bury the little one. I'm so hands on with hatching opening the incubator quickly to get them out is not something I worry about. I usually only have babies still in the eggs that pass in the incubator though as I always take hatched babies out immediately so they don't kick around the other eggs. Makes more work for me as I have to make sure they dry off well in their heat pad but don't get too hot (so lots of being there and monitoring). But I do find it helps them dry off much quicker that way.

Were these babies late? I find the ones that hatch late are often weaker and more prone to passing. I wouldn't have expected both to be gone so soon after making it out on their own (my ones that pass usually last a day or two before passing) unless the temperature was off like @LadiesAndJane mentioned. Were there any other babies or live eggs that were alright after you found them?

Again I'm so sorry, it's always so hard losing them at hatch time, especially when they actually make it out of the egg for you. 😔

I just don't understand what happened
This has happened to me with my quail a few times. I think about baby chicks a lot like baby humans...sometimes they make it to the outside world but internally something isn't right and they don't make it. In my case, it happened to be my double silver quails, which have a lethal gene when crossed together. I'm so sorry this happened though, every time its sad and depressing and hard to accept. :( I too usually wrap the newborns in some paper towels and a small box and put them in the garbage even though every fiber of my being hates it. But with dogs in the backyard, burying them gets tough. We do bury our birds that have grown up and we've become close them like they're pets and family. There is nothing wrong with burying them though if you can't handle throwing them away. :hugs

Ive been sitting in the run w the chickens (told myself i had to be productive today... argh).. everyone is just so content, its so relaxing to watch them.

Bambina just loves to sit w the polish. They seem to snuggle around her and never manage to squoosh her. She is covering her head w her wing in this pic.

And here is Betty in her favorite spot. She doesn't move, everyone has to crawl over her 😆

My yard is overrun with birds cleaning up random grass, feathers, weed barrier cloth around the yard. Its helpful, but the chickens are freaking out! The coop and run are fully enclosed and roofed, so im not worried about AI here.

Im going to see what toys there are at goodwill that might be chicken compatible! These girls (and boys) need projects to work on!

I had 4 live babies I had previously moved to second incubator for drying so as to eliminate the knocking around of the last 3 unmatched.
They were day 22 hatches...I still have 1 more in the egg in same incubator that hasn't hatched but it's alive and making progress.

Oh the life right?!
My 4 month olds are out doing the same thing!
I believe they r juvenile molting as feathers are flying here n there and they totally freak as if it's actually something else 😜!

sorry for your loss.

a few years ago I had to assist a weak chick, took it from the broody and put under the lamp. it slept for 5-6 hours and died. no obvious sign of anything wrong, just sleepy.

It's just so sad...
I cannot imagine how losing an actual baby similarly would feel...the helplessness is overwhelming just from these lil babies.
Sadly my daughter did miscarry over the weekend...so really havin yo be careful what I say as I know you're is NO comparison with lil chicks vs actual babies!

Im so sorry about your family's loss 💔 🥺 Im sure the chicks are a reminder of how fragile it all is. Focus on your others that hatched, grief can pile up unexpectedly. :hugs
