I like to sneak in here and share a photo every now and again. Don't have chickens anymore since my husband passed. I sure miss hatching and having them. My own health now says, don't do it. 😭 The first one is a fuzzy butt of a Showgirl..😁 Then me with one of my most favorite white girls years ago. View attachment 3042296 View attachment 3042297
Oh nice babies!
So sorry bout your DH and health!
Health makes it really difficult to get to enjoy my babies as well!

15 day-old Hotaru (Firefly in Japanese) is just starting to develop more red on the chest today. I promise I won’t post daily photos of her! 🤣
I just find her coloring so fascinating. Hope she ends up being kind of calico colored. White with black and red feathering. Time will tell!😊
She does not mind posing for the camera so far!🥰

Oh the personality! She's a cutie!!!
N I see she has the exact same vibrant eyes of those I have from you! I keep meaning to tell u that and forget!
It's as if their little eyes are sparkled by Instagram filters but they really are that way!

Such a cool description!🥰
Yes, many of my paints have this kind of eye coloring. Almost a greenish rim. Mama Hanabi’s are quite orange. Here’s a photo when she was younger trying to get to the camera!🤣

I wish i had a cochin like Hanabi 😔 I just had to help all the newbies into the coop, even giant Fred, because Elsa was standing at the door attacking them as they went inside. Of course, then i pick her up and she's cooing. I wish she wasn't so mean to the others.

She’ll probably calm down as the others get older and everybody starts laying eggs!😊

My single hatch Christmas chick looks to be a boy 😩 3 months now and good size comb and wattles. He's very super skittish! I'm listing to sell, if someone has the time to handle him daily he'll be ok but not much hope in selling a boy here as there are a few people trying to get rid of their Silkie boys too. I probably will end up culling him unfortunately. He's just black, nothing fancy and from the beginning he's always not been a friendly one so he doesn't even have that going for him.
I couldn't even take a good pic of him, no way will allow me to come close enough! I took him off the roost last night before sunset and he was screaming bloody murder! I held him for a bit and he calmed down though at least.

maybe you should start butchering the excess roos. it is the hardest thing about keeping chickens and I am still struggling. a lot of people who take roos for free just eat them. if you invested in them then you should eat them. silkie meat has a lot of health benefits and make a good soup.

Aye it may come down to that. It really is the hardest part of keeping them. 😞

I've had to cull a few times for other reasons and even with the mean ones it is hard. I don't give the boys away free just to try to avoid them just getting eaten but that also makes it where they don't go very fast at all. They are definitely a money sink but if I do actually manage to find homes where they are cared about it makes it worth it to me. The numbers I'm hatching at I can't keep it up though. I'm going to try only selling in pairs for the ones who are old enough to sex as recommended by other breeders in the area. If that doesn't work I'll probably have to emotionally prepare for the other option but I'm just not there yet.

3 of my 5 week olds are looking very orange! :yesss: just the colours I'm going for! Biscuit has done well with Smokey giving me quite a few partridge/ red leakage ones!

They are looking lovely! That bright orange color coming in really is stunning! 😍

He's the lighter columbian yeah.
These r the pics I'm using...any suggestions? Or u think they r good?

I think those pictures are very nice! I'm pretty sure most who know how to judge type can already get it from your pictures but a picture side on showing how he usually stands and how he holds his wings from that position wouldn't hurt either. His coloring is gorgeous and I really think he'd be a wonderful asset so someone working on Columbian. I hope someone gets in touch about him soon! :fl

They are just adorable!

I can't imagine how hard that must have been having to give them up. Your birds really were so lovely and it is always such a pleasure seeing them. ❤️

Oh she just keeps getting flashier! I think she is going to be such a gorgeous girl! She seems to be getting the red where my little pyle like girls and boys tend to get it first. It really likes popping in first on the shoulders and breast followed by the neck and head. I wouldn't mind seeing pictures of her everyday if you were so inclined! 😍😂

I love the new name too, it is adorable! 🥰

Aww I'm so sorry. I really hope maybe someone will want him so you don't have to cull. You have such beautiful silkies I'm sure plain black or not he will be stunning. Do you post pictures of parents along with his when advertising? If not it might make a big difference as the parents are clearly very very nice quality and they'll give a good hint into how nice he could turn out type wise later on. 🥰
