Sorry everyone for the late responses I fell a bit behind again. 😅

Do you change anything else about your incubation parameters when hatching silkies? I'm incubating my second clutch of them, and found that the first clutch started externally pipping at day 18, so this time I removed the turner at day 16 just to be on the safe side (as opposed to day 17 for the last clutch). Just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing in the future. TIA :)

I don't really change many parameters when hatching other than I find the silkies can tend to have a harder time getting in position to hatch so I am more hands on with them. In lines where there aren't many vaulted ones this might not be a problem but I find the large vaulted babies often need assistance or else they end up DIS (dead in shell). If you aren't finding you lose many at lockdown than being more hands off is definitely easier though! 😂

What humidity at lockdown? I'm afraid of drowning them.

I like aiming for 60-75% at lockdown. If everything else is on track and air cells are at a good size going into lockdown it's usually hard to drown them through lockdown humidity as long as you make sure to keep your air vent fully open (they really need the extra oxygen with the higher humidity).

Soooo what are the chances with shipped eggs having no detached air cells? Wow candles them, from Indigoegg.us, not the first time I've ordered from her, my profile pic is from her eggs, but still, 1200 miles, no cracks at all either. And post office damaged the box.... since they are shipped do i still set pointy side down? crossing fingers and toes.

It's really a mixed bag but if the shipping wasn't too hard on them at least some of the air cells being intact would definitely be possible. Then some may be a little loose but still attached and others may be really loose and saddled but still attached further down. I have good luck with the ones that are just a little loose and still get a decent amount hatching from the ones with more badly saddled air cells. The completely detached ones that just roll with the egg when candling are the worst and I haven't had much luck with those but I try anyway. Setting pointy end down is especially helpful for the shipped eggs to keep those air cells in a good position until they stabilize (if they do, occasionally they won't and you may need to hatch with the egg propped up to keep the air cell in the right spot through hatching). I hope you get a good hatch! I haven't ordered eggs from that particular breeder yet but I've always heard good things. The silkie in your profile picture is gorgeous! 🥰

I let the juveniles out to play for the first time today! I can't seem to get over how stunning the paint naked neck is!😍
