I definitely love my little Silkies and Noodles my Silkie/Cochin cross. When Bonnie got attacked by the Eagle I almost had a heart attack...:hit
She is all healed but now staying closer to the lilac bush and the Coop door. :hugs
After trimming around everyone's eyes they can see way better and run around happily just outside the Coop door.
Might not be the smartest little birds but they definitely are sweet and make me chuckle daily...:hugs
Definitely crest trimming is a life saver. :hugs

3 silkie eggs and 1 cochin Bantam egg from today. :love

People eat chickens...:frow
Yes we do, as do most other carnivores and omnivores, including other chickens.
I just did a bunch of research on Ayam Cemani. Apparently, while they are black throughout except blood (red due to hemoglobin) and eggs which are white to cream, Silkies only have black skin. But for those looking to eat black birds, 99% of black skinned birds at a grocer will be silkies, not AC. AC only lay about 60 eggs a year and they are too valuable for most people to butcher. Even in Java they can sell for up to $200.
The term Ayam comes up in many Indonesian breeds' names but only the Cemani is black. In Javanese, ayam means chicken, cemani means completely black. It resulted from a mutation that created hyper melanism.

Sorry @HuffleClaw for hijacking a Spectacular Silkie thread, I just found it interesting.

I actually think silkies are cool but they don't fit my personality or lifestyle.
