Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

I'm looking for a broody silkie to hatch eggs. Does anyone know if they are tolerant of Eastern NC weather or are they too cold intolerant? All my girls, have 8, free range every day except during hunting season, so they are confined to a 20 x 20 pen for three months. My converted dog kennel chicken coop and run lacks electricity thus the question about cold tolerance.

I'm in the mountains in central, PA and mine have no issues in the winter. They choose to stay inside and won't really wander out in the snow but they don't seem to have any trouble with the cold.

Good news and thank you. We are zone 8 and I was concerned about the few really cold nights each year.

Once I had a chicken get out and slept in the trees on a - 40f degrees night had no visual frost bite damage..

One of my silkie pullets tries to sleep on top of the run every night, but I just pick her up and put her inside the coop. This war has been going on for two weeks now
