Are you still going to sell the chicks even though there is a possibility of mites?

Edit: just wondering, I am not going to criticize you.

No I've kept ahold of them while I do a dip treatment on them.

They've had multiple soapy baths and dipped with it left to soak into them then sprayed with mite spray.

They'be been kept in the brooder on white puppy pads and I've seen no sign of them either on them or on the chicks themselves.

I decided to go for the easier option of setting fire to the brooder rather than wasting my time treating it.

The mother had two hot baths today to rid of any mites on her and had a dip treatment also.

She's still housed separately to my flock though. She'll have another bath tomorrow and a spot on applied.

I've give my whole flock an additional powder and a spot on too to be on the safe side.

I'm a little confused though, I showed a few people today the photo of it and they all said it was a tick not a mite

I'm still thinking mite but is it possible to have multiple ticks in once place?

Hmm I don't have enough experience to say either way but I found a little information on poultry ticks.

Here is an article about them https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/poultry-ticks.48763/ Seems like the ticks aren't typically found on the chickens as their behavior is more like a bed bugs in that they hide during the day and feed at night. Red mites do the same thing. Northern fowl mites actually live on the chickens though.

Thankyou for linking that article! Looking at the photos there, they do look quite like them.

Maybe if I ever do find anymore, I'll pop them in a tub and get a vet to check them under a microscope for a correct identification.

Also, another question for you, @Fur-N-Fowl. You live in the UK so you have the option of both sizes, do you have standards or bantams or both? Just wondering, I don't know why.

I like having the option there but sometimes it makes it very difficult when trying to buy them. You get quite a few 'in between' sizes.

Quite a while back I did have two LF whites but they didn't have good enough feathering so they got a new home.

Mine are Bantam, except my rooster who is slightly bigger than the accepted Bantam 'showing size' but he's still not near being LF.

My smallest being little Carrot here who fits nicely into your hand!
