My white rooster went through most of last year with a purple bum because he somehow scraped himself on something then got flystrike. I caught it very early and after cleaning him up, coated him liberally with Blukote. That dyes feathers very effectively.

He spent 2 weeks hiding whenever he heard me coming because he knew I'd pick him up to check him. He knows his name because I used to call him before I used him as a photo model. Once I have him, he snuggles in and will groom my arm as I groom pin feathers.
