Good morning! I welcomed this adorable little trio to my flock last week 🥰 I know they’re hard to sex but far right seems to be a roo. Either way, I’m so excited for my first silkies! View attachment 2566318
:loveHow cute! Love how they are standing in a row huddled together 🥰
So only one little chick out of 25 eggs! It is a lavender which is what I was hoping for. I won’t know the feather type until it’s about 10 days of age. Hoping it is silkied. Also has a fairly significant vaulted skull. This was a difficult hatch, took her over 3 hours to zip. Had to help her out at the end. I think she was partially shrink wrapped.
The poor little thing ended up being glued to the shelf liner I use at hatch with some of the egg gunk. She had not moved in about four hours, I thought it was just because she was so tired from the hatching experience but it turns out the gunk had glued her wings down, her neck to her body and also her body to the mat! Had to loosen this up with warm water and Q-tips and ended up washing the rest of the gunk off of her under the sink with warm water and a little soap carefully of course with a heat lamp over to keep her warm. This is how she looks now. I will post a new photo when she’s all fluffed up and cute. Going to be tricky I think integrating her in with the older chicks.😊
I am not giving up though, and I did order another dozen eggs from the same breeder. Half lavender and half paint. She packed the eggs beautifully last time and I think it was the post office that shook the eggs despite all the fragile labels and arrows up labels!

Congrats on your little fighter 🥰 She looks so touching, and that cute 'weird' hairdo^^ I hope she will thrieve! Perhaps little Imari will be her friend?
Never thought it was possible they can get glued to the shelf liner! That's worrisome.

Thanks! It was one of the reasons I posted it as a warning to others. Normal for chicks to be immobile for a bit after hatching but I was lucky I happened to notice it. Seeing how she was the only chick that hatched, I have been watching her like a hawk! New photo of her just now she’s in the brooder by her self and snuggling up to her little Valentine’s Day bear friend under the heat plate!
I was thinking of placing Imari with her as he is the youngest of the older chicks. She does need to be a little more stable on her feet probably will wait until after the shoes are removed and that she’s eating and drinking normally. Haven’t gotten her to eat much yet but then again she’s only a day and a half old.
My daughter named her Sumire, which means Violet in Japanese!😊

Awww look at her 😍 ❤️
Cute name for a cute chick!
My mom and I looked around for shelf liner to buy but didn't find any here, but we still have two smaller pieces from times we lived in another country, and I was glad to have those two small parts - now I'm wondering if I should place them...the hatching-shelves do have wirebottoms...

Just read your other thread (tube feeding a chick) - I'm crossing my fingers for you and your dear little Sumire - sending positive thoughts and prayers ❤️ :fl

Little Sumire just passed. She passed comfortable snuggled up to the teddy bear. She had a bad start, odds were against her. She will be buried under the orange tree next to the other chicks that have died in the past.😞
Oh no...I'm so sorry. You tried everything :hugs - little Sumire's life was filled with your love and care. She touched directly several hearts ❤️
Sending lots of hugs.

Thank you both, your words are comforting.🥰
It was not unexpected, she did try to hang on, but was so weak, the tube feeding, which I did not get a chance to try, probably would not have made a difference.
🥰
