Can someone explain the silkie need to hair pull? Hens get in a fight and pull crest feathers.
My roosters like to pull butt feathers to drive others off.
One old rooster would chase down the large fowl ameraucana roosters and just start yanking butt feathers. They were terrified of him. He'd make a go for anything that wasn't silkie and taught his sons to do the same. I had to raise them away from him to stop that territory expansion aggression.
But sitting with them just now 2 hens got into a pecking order dispute. They both think they are top hen. Yesterday when this started they did the normal try and jump and land on opponent. Since they had good crests and couldnt aim well this meant jumping over each other. When that was realized as futile, they went for the feather pulling.
Fights always seem to devolve into feather pulling. Probably name calling as well but I don't speak silkie. I feel like I'm watching teenage girls.
