That's awesome that you want to and are going to keep him :celebrate

I thought you had to give him away, therefore the sad smiley when you wrote you are sure he is a boy - I got really attached to this sweet little dandelion 🥰
I WANT to keep him 😂 .. but that means I must cull Rooster 😩 so I don't know if I will keep Easter, I don't like to cull unless absolutely necessary.

Here are my silkies!!
1. Silkie with hair bow
2. I think I'll enter this one in the calendar contest
3. Ringo

:celebrate

First and foremost - ABSOLUTELY NO HATING ON SILKIES ALLOWED!!! If you aren’t here to support our fuzzy friends, don’t respond. :)

Silkies get a bad rap for the following:
"Looks like a dust mop"
"Too hard to maintain"
"Poor immune system"
"Dumber than rocks"
"0 predator awareness"
And oh, so much more.

Well my friends - I thought so too, until I actually got silkies for myself. These are some of the most wonderful birds out there.

I’ve found them to be highly heat tolerant, wonderful mothers, having the strongest immune systems in my Bantam flock, GREAT LAYERS (that’s right folks), adorable as all get out, and more. :D

I currently have 9 silkies - and my rooster has been nothing but a gentleman to his ladies. They free range daily and I’ve not had a silkie get killed by a predator yet. My hens average 5 eggs a week - not too bad for a silkie, eh? :)

Most of the time, these silkie haters haven’t even owned the breed, but rather pretend they know everything.

So... let the fun begin! Support our silkies! :woot

Pictures always welcome. :)

Be mindful, and respect others...

Off-topic discussions are allowed, though try to maintain the subject of silkies.

i adopted 7 chickens at the end of June. The pictures I was sent showed 1 silkie among the others. What I got was 7 Bantams. I recognized the 3 Silkies but had to look up the others. The Mottled Cochins are jerks and wouldn't let the Silkies into the coop during a rainstorm so

I moved them into the basement with the Serama pair. What I like: 1) They look like Muppets and were named accordingly. 2) They're chickens. 3) The 5 toes. Weird; I wasn't expecting that.
What I am not crazy about: 1} The feathered feet. It's the last thing a chicken needs. 2) They're skittish and freak out when picked up. Calm down, I'm not going to kill you. They seem a little calmer with each handling.

Sorry but I think my denial stage has passed 😂 ... Easter is a cockerel I can see what people have been saying now, tail, streamers, saddle, hackle and orange on wings... He may not act like a boy and doesn't crow but he is a boy 😭
Here he is today..

Aww I'm so sorry little Easter did turn out to be a boy! I hope you are able to find him a great home though, he sounds like a sweetie! 🥰

Ta da! I have 6 EEs that arrive today too! Everyone is doing great!
Congratulations on their safe arrival, they are so adorable! 🥰

I agree about the colors. Looks like black, blue, three white, and some type of partridge (given the silvery tint to the down possibly a silver partridge/grey). 😊

Oh my goodness, those little ponytails and pigtails look too cute! Too bad the silkies made such short work of theirs! 🤣

Great to hear from you! Hope your move is a smooth one and all the birds settle in well to their new digs!❤️
Can't wait to see your grow outs! I remember you had several that were similar in coloring to Amai when they were younger. She still looks partridge but is mostly black with beigey grey chest and wing feathers.
I am keeping Eko, he is sweet and I am planning to use him for breeding next year. He is the only male I have right now. Will be interesting what kind of funky colors come out. Decided to use what I have and just have mixed color silkies and focus more on type then color (no one here shows silkies or seems to care apparently, they just want "fluffy" silkies), though I am most interested what crosses I get with him and my splash Layla, as you so eloquently described for me in a post a few months back.
(I bookmarked that one!)
😊
Also, can't wait to see your "surprise" babies! 🥰

Edited for spelling

Thank you! 🥰

My little ones who looked similar to Amai still look pretty similar albeit with a bit more silver but not much. Well two of the three, the third turned out to be a boy and looks a little different (different distribution of color and some red over the back/wings).

I can't wait to see what kind of colors you get breeding Eko with your beautiful girls as well! 😁

Best wishes for your move! I hope you all will enjoy your new home and place and will be very happy there!
I'm looking forward to the pictures of the eleven sweeties 🥰
Oooh surprise babies :wee

Thank you ❤️
...Trimming went really well - Schorschette was surprisingly cooperative and even liked it! She didn't move and let me do everything patiently and relaxed, we were very surprised (my mom held her).
I can tell it makes a huge difference for her, from now on I will trim her crest regularly.
I will take and post an 'after' picture 😊
We started to trim Roberta's and Mirabelle' crest. They were cooperative, too, but made little head moves, so it's a step by step-thing with them. And Mirabelle's 'fan' is so thick, until now one doesn't see any difference because the fluff just slides after.

Thank you! 🥰

I'm so glad the crest trimming went well! Even though I hate butchering my girls crests it really does make a world of difference for the ones with the larger crests. I'm sure Schorschette is enjoying the newfound view! ☺️
