Wow...yeah, I'm not that hardcore. I don't like unnecessary killing of animals. This is a place where DH and I often argue. He's shot many a possum and coon that have gotten into our animal feed. I, on the other hand, feel it's wrong to kill an animal that is just trying to live. I would feel differently if it were an animal were hunting to eat. Since we aren't eating mice (or possum, coons, etc...for that matter), I'm not down with killing them. Instead I rehome them to a state park that's about 5 miles away...and use metal trash cans to hold my feed so they can't get to it.

You should have seen the numerous rows we had about the grey foxes that keep coming around. They've picked off at least a dozen chickens in the past 2 years but I refuse to let DH kill them. Instead I put up nets over the coop to keep my chickens from jumping the fence at dawn. That's helped a lot....

Well got a good morning wakeup call from Mango in the garage...earlier than usual - guess the snow "brightens" it up a lot!
Thankfully we survived the night either 7 chickens and 2 cats in garage. Only 1 cat goes in "stealth" mode when she sees the chickens but she is declared and I just monitor them while they go potty and eat in garage. Hubs didn't want to bring the cats stuff inside so more visits with my babies - WIN!!!
It's a balmy 9°F and feels like 3° here with nearly 7" of snow...most Tennessee has gotten in a very long time! Just hate it is always late for Christmas Day!

Its 33 here.. last of the cold mornings (for now).. but im in the car in flip flops and no jacket, but have the heat cranking. My hoodie sweatshirt was dirty. I might need to buy winter clothes

I'm just a hop, skip, and jump to the east of you. After last year's cold snap, I invested in a woodburning fireplace. Even though it's been down in the teens (with windchill), I've been running a fire since Sunday. My heat hasn't turned on even once.... Glorious!

Ooooh... do you have a bat house? I'm sure bats are near me. But we have fox and skunks, well possums and racoons too. I haven't seen them personally yet though. The coop builder actually added 1/4" (around .5 cm) hardware cloth instead of 1/2" after i have him the neighborhood prey animal list oh and black vultures and hawks and coyotes. Its a zoo out here!

Guess what!! Pretty girl Esmeralda laid her first egg yesterday i heard her chatting more then normal in the afternoon, but didn't suspect anything. Found the egg in the evening. ANDDD Daisy has started back up too! I kind of think Minnie got everyone going again! Next is Elsa.

I'm noticing the silkie chicks seem calmer now, and the polish are still spazzy weirdos, they are starting to get more curious.

Gave my base plans to a potential worker and haven't heard anything. So.. gotta post the job again. Getting annoyed with lazies around here. I built a retaining wall with a neighbor once, so i know what to do, just not sure i can do it alone in a timely manner.

Yeah we have a few bat houses. Then at night they fly in circles around my house

I have a wood burning fireplace its beautiful too.. with the WOOD surround the previous owner installed.. which means the surround will catch on fire so now i need to pay someone to deconstruct the "improvement ".

I did buy some led candles to at least make it look cute in the meantime. And im cold

oh no! Sometimes you have to wonder what (if anything) is going through people's heads..... smh. It cost me about $15K to build the fireplace. It still isn't fully completed yet. Our mantel is custom milled walnut which won't be here until next week. Also, they put in some hearthstones which I don't like. So we are getting them removed and a custom piece of solid black granite will be installed the week of Jan 17th. But until then, the current hearthstones will have to do so I can continue to use the fireplace in the meantime....

Beautiful!! Yea i was considering a vented sealed gas fireplace (thought my setup was gas since their was a gas pipe... ) but the guy pretty much will just order the system for me, but not do anything else. Whats the point? I love your fireplace. I need to find a mason who will take down the joke stuff and then check the integrity of the current bricks.... but... once i learned it was a wood fireplace, it changed my focus. I like your insert!! I would like something like that.. i definitely want the glass door.

I thought the chickens would be too cold this morning (they are on the covered porch) but they were their normal demanding selves worms at 730, Sharp!!
