It's just so hard to dig in the dirt without the chickens all over the area and kicking the dirt back in the hole you just dug! 😅 It took twice as long but I dug down the side of the coop 20cm and put some small hole wire fencing in and up the side for better rodent protection.
And inspector Biscuit always has to be at my feet as I'm digging 😅
When I finally finished I put metal bars and timber over the top to protect my hard work from the chickens digging it all back up ☺️

I need to do this same thing w the hardware cloth... Esmeralda will be the one running around my feet!

Im looking at the size of your chicks next to your adult silkies, and Bambina is only slightly larger than your chicks 😬

Here’s the silkie x Cochin / satin mixes!! They’re almost 3 weeks old already I cant believe it!View attachment 3028542
Oh they are adorable! I bet they'll be a fun mix. 🥰

:wee
I found someone who's going to ship me eggs on Tuesday so I should get them by Thursday!! Chickaletta will be very happy! She's on a fake egg till then. There might be paint and buffs in the mix!
.. I never have bought shipped eggs before, any tips!!???

That is fantastic! I hope the eggs make the trip in good shape. :fl

I don't have advice for incubation with a broody but I've found the eggs I've let rest for 24 hours or so before incubation seem to have a bit of a better hatch rate. Could be coincidence but since I've had most of my higher hatch rates doing this I'm sticking with it. The only exception is if eggs arrive when it is warmer. If they happen to start incubation because they got fairly warm during shipment it is probably better to get them started incubating right away.

Oh I totally forgot bout her! Thanks for reminder!!! My DH said I could get more satin eggs from Fielder Farms in AL so they'll be here next week!
I better wait on this chick til next time lol!

Well Grayson and Joey (mostly Grayson) are like grabbing a mouthful of feathers from head or tail and hanging on as the girls run around the run!
No blood thankfully BUT the most horrible screams you have ever heard! I hate it!

How is Esmeralda @AngBantamLuv ???

Oh exciting! I hope you get a good hatch from those eggs! Will they be more silver penciled? 😍

Uhg yeah my young boys always do that with the young girls too. Teenage boys are just obnoxious when they get their hormones and want to court the girls who aren't quite ready yet. 😅 I often separate my young boys from the girls when they hit that stage they are hassling them. Putting them with older girls who can keep them in check sometimes works out too. With my silkie girls being so docile most of the time even the older girls may not be able to cope with a young hormonal boy though. 😩

Biscuit sounds like such a cute character! 😂 And of course gorgeous as always! ❤️

Guess whatttt... miracle in the coop!! EVERYONE put themselves to bed tonight!! Even teenie tiny Bambina! It was her first time touching the ramp (she jump flies out in the morning, and gets an elevator ride at night) and she figured it out!! So excited, life w the flock just got a little easier 🥰

Hurray for Bambina!!! :celebrate

Found a second Hanabi baby among the 13 chicks. There is a six day difference in their ages. Both are feathering in with smooth feathers, which is expected.
Only indication that their mama is red is the one has some ruddiness around the eyes and the older one has a single red spot on its head. Otherwise they look like normal paints.😊
