It's a mistake I won't make again . I won't buy anything unless Dna sexed . Unless I buy chicks and just buy straight run and rehome the cockerels when I can tell sex . $30 is too expensive to not get pulletsThe only silkies you can be almost totally certain of sex at 4 months are the partridge color, and only because male and female are different colors. Otherwise DNA sexed is the way to be sure and few do that.
Im pretty good at sexing my birds early, but I wouldn't sell anything without a replacement guarantee if it was sold as a pullet.
I have just pets though and thought I was being smart buying sexed pullets . I am not planning on showing so I wasn't looking for show quality. He is a pretty white cockerel , and I will probably keep him as he is a sweetheart . It justWell I have paid more than that for a cockerel for breeding, but it was sold as such and had great conformation. He was also old enough for us to know how good he looks
Yeah I understand buying a great looking bird especially if you show or want show lines . Mine are mainly pets and fun . Big Bird won't be faulted Ill just have to change my setup , and hope my hatched chicks are all pullets and the chicks in the brooder are pullets . He may have to be a bachelor for a while but I'll figure something out. He's so sweet naturedWell I have paid more than that for a cockerel for breeding, but it was sold as such and had great conformation. He was also old enough for us to know how good he looked.
I see a large round comb and streamers, so I vote cockerel. Funny how I can always clearly see the signs of "boy" when someone else's bird is in question, but never when it involves my own!Meet Big Bird can anyone tell me if he/she is a pullet or a cockerel .
