Sweet thing died years ago. I don’t know how old she was when we got her. She was always hatching out chicks and you’d see her proudly parading around the most crazy assortments, including Guinea keets.

There are so many beautiful Silkies in this thread. I’m slowly working my way through it.

The 4 darker ones could be either black or dark blue (which can look black sometimes). The light colored one getting some darker feathers in could be a lighter downed blue or a dark splash. That ones feathers are coming in too dark for lavender I believe. Light blues when bred to be lighter can look similar to lavenders though, blues and splash can vary in shade quite a bit.



Those feathers really do have such a beautiful pattern close up, they are both such pretty girls!

I swear, I can never tell with the colors!! The down and the shades and the breeding, it's all so confusing lol. Thank you!

@LynnaePB didn't you do a post a whole back that had pics of a chicks wing at 1 to 2 weeks of age showing the difference between a Silkie and a Satin?
I've searched and searched and cannot locate it!
The babies wings are all starting to come in with feathers and I'm trying to identify which ones are Satin, Silkie...and which might just be frizzley!

Give them a haircut, then judge intelligence. If they can see, they are pretty good at outsmarting people. It's the feather blindness that gives them a dumb reputation.

They figure out really quick that if they can dunk their heads in water, they can slick their crests out of their eyes to see.

Mine figured out the treadle feeders much faster than the EE and ameraucana.

Ahhhhhhh, my lil Ms Poof Poof is singing the egg song again. Her chicks just passed 4 weeks old on Saturday.. yesterday there a brand new egg in the nest. For a young lady she's really feeling her oats! She's so small too!
