What is a vaulted skull?? And what are streamers??
Beautiful babies, btw! I have a flock of 11 and only two are silks, the rest are satins. I’m surprised how much I love the satins. They are so beautiful!

Ditto luving the Satins!!! The floof of a Silkie with detailed feathering you can see better!!!

Vaulted skull...how I was told, is like a baby's soft spot on top of their head only with a chick is sticks out rather than sinking inward. It is very important the chicks not get hit on their head or it could be fatal....makes for difficult hatches sometimes, etc.
I like a vaulted skull because it gives that added floof on top with their crest!
Heres couple pics of the 3 above from hatch and few days old.

Thank you for explaining that! I know that the breeder I got my Silkies from warned me of the open spot on their head but she didn’t say anything regarding vaulting. Mine are older now so I don’t know if any had that to begin with.
I do love their personalities! They are so sweet! And they have better attitudes than my BCs! Lol
You mentioned that Perdy is a paint Satin. What’s the difference between paint and splash? I have two I would call splash but now I wonder if they’re paint??

Don't take anything I say as technical...or even factual lol. I'm just sharing what I've learned since thread is a little sleepy this morning and I'm wide awake after my "little girl screaming" awakening this morning lol

Paint has black spots and white everywhere else whereas Splash is all intermingled more to me like a watercolor of grey white and black. Above posts of Perdy is a paint....Candy is a splash.
Again my technical explanations are for 3 year olds lolol ... and me!

Streamers are the long feathers off the back of a silkie rooster's crest.

Oh boy. And I really mean that! I think I have a bunch of roosters in my flock of Silkies.

Super curious about the last chicken pictures. It’s the sweetest of the group and is always the first to jump on my lap. It’s crest is wet here. Usually it’s very fluffy. Does that look like a roo??
And the two white ones, I’m guessing those would be paint not splash, right?
