Has anyone bought hatching eggs from Alabama Silkies before?
Yes my two OGs are from Alabama Silkies hatched from eggs. They keep hundreds of Silkies I believe and sell eggs all over the place, used to sell them worldwide but I think that has stopped. They donate a lot of their eggs to the local food banks in their area as well. Good people. Though when I asked for lavender Silkies I got splash. I had an excellent hatch rate considering they came all the way to Hawaii. They pack their eggs very well.
One of the boys had a single comb though and one was actually a satin, what they call a “sizzle“. He was quite lovely but at the time I wasn’t breeding satins so he went to a friend who needed new bloodlines.
One of the hens was beardless. I believe they keep their flock divided by colors but do not differentiate between beardless and bearded and the occasional satin. They do say this on their website as well.
You will likely hatch out both vaulted and non-vaulted chicks as well. I only kept the two that did not have a vaulted skull and had full beards.
Photos of my two girls from them. The only two I have left from the original.
They are both gorgeous, weigh around 2 lbs and as far as I can tell “show quality“. They both have been producing beautiful chicks for me.😊

Thanks for letting me know!

They came from Hawaii?!? Why are they called Alabama silkies?

Frizzle question I hope I can ask here.
My rooster Larry is from two frizzles. I knew less about chicks and genes back then. He has always been a mess. His feathers are brittle and you could see his skin was often red and raw. About a month ago I switched to all flock food. His feathers are starting to grow out better than ever before. I had no idea that he wasn't getting the right food. I hope he continues to heal. Is there anything else I could do to help him?

Unfortunately Larry is a “frazzle” produced when two frizzles are bred together. This is why it is not advisable to do so. Besides their brittle and often missing feathers, they can also suffer from heart conditions and other ailments. He can also get sunburned in the areas he does not have feathers. Best you can do is keep him warm, though out of direct sun, and feed him higher protein feed, All Flock is good.😊

Wow really!? I was thinking to get some frizzles, so it's best not to then? so how do you breed frizzles then if you can't breed them with eachother?
